1. The given bar chart (=The following bar chart) above illustrates (= depicts)
the total travelers who used (=utilized) various types (=modes) of
transportation for reaching the office and returning home such as
(=including) bus, car (=automobile), bike and foot in Europe city between
1960 and 2000. In general, the car gained huge popularity as a mode of
commuting (FORM OF TRANSPORTATION). In contrast, using foot (THE
USE OF FEET) and other means declined significantly over the period
shown (INDICATED).
2. The bar chart above shows the total number of travelers who used various
modes of transport, including bus, car, bicycle, and walking, to get to and
from work in European cities between 1960 and 2000.
In general, cars have become a very popular means of commuting, while, the
use of walking aids and other assistive devices decreased significantly
during the period presented.
In 1960, there was roughly 35 percent of travelers using their foot to and from
workplaces. The usage of bike and bus was 25 percent and 18 percent respectively,
while car was used by a fewer people that was only 5 percent. Over the next 20
years, the proportion of people using bus apart from a jump to approximately 26
percent and then the bus became the most popular means in this year. The car also
gained people demands, this figure witnessed a dramatic increase that nearly
quadruple than it was in 1960 (=People's demand for automobiles increased
dramatically, roughly quadrupling from 1960). The usage of bike dropped by 5
percent in this year (=This year saw a 5% decrease in bike utilization)
In the last year, more than 35 percent of citizens used a car for commuting, this
figure was twofold as high as the usage of the bus at 16 percent (=more than 35%
of citizens commuted by automobile, which was twice as high as the 16% who
took the bus). There was a gradual decrease in bike and foot usage, accounting for
9 percent and 6 percent respectively.
