Introduction
This manual describes the procedure used to setup Hex File – The .Hex file is a file consisting of a pre-loaded
and load software onto the programs designed to run on the Greer Computer. The
assembly, (PCBA) using the Windows content of the file is a combination of the load chart data and
based Greer MicroGuard™ Application Loader. the software program, both of which are crane and application
specific.
Requirements
PC - Personal Computer
The Greer Data Cable, (Part Number X999400) – A cable Figure 1.2
which allows the user to connect a PC desktop or laptop to the Greer PCBA Configurations
Greer Computer via a PC USB port.

Note: The following procedure outlines the steps taken for users who have PC’s with an active
internet connection.
1. Connect the Greer Programming Cable to an available USB port on the PC.
2. When the programming cable is connected the monitor will display the following response:
4. Once the next button has been selected, the monitor will display:
5. Now, click “Install the software automatically, (Recommended),” and select “Next” to continue.
6. The software will automatically search the internet for a suitable driver connection.
7. Once a connection has been found, and drivers have been installed, the following box will be displayed:
8. The USB Serial Converter has been installed. Select “Finish,” and close the wizard.
Note: If the connection fails, please refer to Greer Flash Programming CD based installation procedures
located within this manual.
9. Repeat steps 2 through 8 for USB Serial Port Drivers, when the system prompts for it.
Note: The following procedure outlines the steps taken for users who have PC’s without an active
internet connection.

2. Connect the Greer Programming cable to an available USB port on the PC.
3. Once the connection is made the monitor will display the following response:

8. Once the driver has been found, and installed the following box will be displayed:
9. Repeat steps 3 through 8 for USB Serial Port driver, when the system prompts for it.
Note: The following section describes how to install the Miniloader software from the Greer Flash
Programming CD.
1. Insert the Greer Flash Programming CD go to the Miniloader Ver. x.x Setup Folder. (Note: Version
numbers are subject to change in the future.)
2. Run the “setup.exe” program to install the Miniloader software. The system will display the following
window:
4. The user may change the default selections by selecting the options below.
6. The screen below is shown when installation is complete. Miniloader shortcuts, will now be located on
the user’s desktop as well as the Start Menu.
Note: The following section describes the process used to install application (.hex) files stored on a laptop or PC
desktop to the Greer computer.
2. Verify that the USB end of the Greer data cable is connected to the PC.

Note: Due to different Greer PCBA configurations, the location of the JU2 header will vary, as shown in the
examples below.

4. Next, put the large white connector onto the J7 header located on the Greer PCBA, as shown in the
illustrations below.

Note: Due to different Greer PCBA configurations, the location of the J7 header will vary, as shown below.

5. Now, start the Greer MicroGuard™ Application Loader (Miniloader.exe), and apply power to the Greer
computer. Verify that the COMM LED is blinking in a regular pattern.
Note: The Miniloader.exe program will locate the correct COM port, and will provide a connection
between the user PC, and the Greer computer.
7. If the “Communication OK “ checkbox did not get a checkmark, verify there is a connector
on JU2, and the connection between the Greer programming cable and the user PC is secure.
8. If the “Communication OK” checkbox is still unchecked, it may be necessary to remove power to the
computer, and re-power, until the checkbox is checked, complete instructions may be found in the
troubleshooting section of this manual.
Note: When selecting the .hex program to download, the COM Port OK, as well as the Communicate OK boxes
must be checked. If for some reason, they are not checked, it may be necessary to cycle power to the
Greer computer, and try again. This may also happen if the Greer computer has been powered up for a
long period of time.
13. The Greer MicroGuard™ Application Loader will now download the hex file onto the Greer Computer. A
progress bar will show the progression of the download.
Note: During the download a dialog regarding a checksum error may be shown. Press OK and the Greer
MicroGuard™ Application Loader will retry the download. This dialog is comonly shown when content is
lost due to other activity on the PC. It may be necessary to reseat the JU2 jumper on the header. If the
connection is loose, errors may persist. Additionally, if the checksum error continues after a few retries,
close the Greer MicroGuard™ Application Loader,remove power from the Greer Computer and go back to
Step 5. The download may also stop completely before it is finished. In this case, close the Greer
MicroGuard™ Application Loader,remove power from the Greer Computer, and go back to Step 5.
14. When the download is successful, the following dialog will be shown:
15. Power off the Greer Computer, and remove the Greer Programming Cable.
Note: When downloading the application, it is important to always record the program name and version on
a label inside the Greer Computer.
