There are 6 levels of written test and 3 levels of oral test. In order to help the test takers get familiar with the mode and questions of the new test, understand its contents and focuses, as well as master the test taking strategies, we have compiled this series of test guides based on the opinions of relevant experts and our suffi- cient study on the sample tests. All the authors and editors of this series are Chinese teachers with rich teaching experience, as well as researchers of international Chinese proficiency testing. Before publication, all of the simulated tests had been taken by examinees who have taken the new HSK. The test ma- terials at all levels ensure a full coverage of the vocabulary and language points required by the outline of new HSK. They can use Chinese to communicate in a simple and direct manner on familiar topics about their daily life, thus having reached a high level of proficiency in elementary Chinese. Contents and time of the test The new HSK (Level II) written test consists of two sections: listening and reading. It is ap- proximately 55-minute long, including: 1. Listening (35 questions, about 25 minutes) 2. Reading (25 questions, 20 minutes) It also includes the 5 minutes for test takers to fill in their personal information and the 5 minutes in the end of the test to write the answers on the answer sheet provided. There are four parts altogether in the listening section of the new HSK (Level II). It is comprised of 35 questions with 10 questions for each of the first three parts and 5 questions for Part IV. Each question will be heard twice. The questions and the requirements are as follows: Part I Listen to the sentences and decide whether the pictures are true or false. Part I Listen to the dialogues and choose the right pictures. Listening -————. - ooo Part II Listen to the short dialogues and choose the right answers. Part IV Listen to the long dialogues and choose the right answers. ‘There are four parts altogether in the reading section of the new HSK (Level Il). It is com- prised of 25 questions with 5 questions for each of the first three parts and 10 questions for Part IV. The questions and the requirements are as follows: Part I Choose the corresponding pictures based on the sentences. Part If Choose the right words or expressions to complete the sentences or dialogues. Reading Part II Decide whether the sentences are true or false based on your understanding. The total score is 200 and the minimum score to pass the test is 120. The test result has a long-term validity. As a Chinese language proficiency certificate for an international student to apply for Chinese educational institutions, it is valid in two years (starting from the date of the test).
