KABATAAN CATECHISM SESSION: THE COMMANDMENTS – 5th Commandment

Learning Objectives:

 To let the girls be familiarized with the 5th Commandment : You shall not kill
(Exodus 20: 13).

 To Emphasize that the 5th commandment:


COMMANDS:
1. To safeguard life (Job 12: 10)
2. To respect our neighbor (Matthew 5: 21-22)
FORBIDS:
1. Murder (Genesis 4: 10-11)
2. Suicide
3. Abortion (Jeremiah 1: 5)
4. Euthanasia
5. Use drugs and other dangerous substances
6. Calumny, Libel, Slander.

 And to help the girls be familiar with the new terms above and guide them in
understanding WHY these actions are related to the 5th commandment

Summary of Activity:

 Break out room: REPORTING

 The titas will review the things discussed in the main session room about the
fifth commandment.

 Choose a member for the following roles:

o Reporter – Assigned to do the reporting in the main session room


o Secretary – to write down the answers of the group
o Timekeeper – to remind the group how many minutes left

 Each tita will be assigned a topic to facilitate a discussion with the girls,
explain AND give examples what their assigned topic means and how it is
related to the 5th commandment. This will be the basis of the group’s
reporting.

 Maximum reporting time for each group is 5 minutes.

 Topic Assignment for Each Tita:


COMMANDS:
1. To safeguard life (Job 12: 10) -
2. To respect our neighbor (Matthew 5: 21-22) –
FORBIDS:
1. Murder (Genesis 4: 10-11) – Tita Beth V.
2. Suicide –Tita Mayette
3. Abortion (Jeremiah 1: 5) – Tita Cristi
4. Euthanasia - Tita Nette
5. Use drugs and other dangerous substances - Tita Ludy
6. Calumny, Libel, Slander. – Tita Eliza

 40 mins will be allotted for the working group discussion.

 Our target time flow will look like:

o 9:30 – 10:00 : Discussion


o 10:00 – 10:40 : Working group with titas
o 10:40 – 11:20 : Presentation of Reporting
o 11:20 – 11:30 : Summary an closing of session

 Main room: DEBRIEF


General debrief of the day’s session and a summary of the reporting the girls
presented.

End the session by challenging the girls to obey the commandments discussed in the
best way they can, be a good example to their community or even their household.

There are so many ways that the fifth commandment is not just limited to murder,
some of the actions that we do even with our words can be a way how we disobey
these commandments. And we have to be careful with not just what we do, but what
we say from now on.

Thank the girls for their time and encourage them to attend next week and to BE ON
