Appendix B Logbooks
Requirement
The use of logbooks is along similar lines to those adopted for the First-year
Project and generally in accordance with normal practice in industry. The logbook
should be created digitally, whether that is a word document or clear photographs of
a handwritten log. It should be written up in real time, i.e., as things happen. It should
certainly be legible, but not necessarily very neat.
Assessment
The supervisor will check your logbooks at the weekly meetings. The individual
mark for your logbook will be awarded based on the following mark guidelines at
the end of each term by the supervisor. The following table is used for logbook
checking.
Marking Guidelines for Logbook
80-100: The logbook is of outstanding quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as
well as the quantity of work undertaken with clear relevance, and all of elements are
excellent. The logbook has very clear evidence of weekly progress with supervisor’s
signature on each week and has a professional updated Gantt chart attached.
70-79: The logbook is of very good quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as well
as the quantity of work undertaken with clear relevance, and all of elements are very
good. The logbook has clear evidence of weekly meetings with supervisor and
record of the arranged meetings is very good, updated Gantt chart attached.
60-69: The logbook is of good quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as well as
the quantity of work undertaken with good relevance, and has good record of all
technical activities, design, tests as well as some other useful information. The
logbook has good evidence of the weekly progress with supervisor’s signature in
majority of the meetings and has a good, updated Gantt chart attached.
50-59: The logbook is of fair quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as well as the
quantity of work undertaken with certain relevance. Brief notes of technical details
and meetings. Only some important part of the work completed with records taken.
The logbook has fair evidence of the weekly progress with some of supervisor’s
signature on and has a fair updated Gantt chart attached.
40-49: The logbook is of poor quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as well as
the quantity of work undertaken with little relevance. Very brief notes of technical
details and meetings with certain key elements missing. The logbook has poor
evidence of the weekly progress with few supervisor’s signatures on and has very
poor/no updated Gantt chart attached.
<40: The logbook is of very poor quality in terms of its accuracy and clarity, as well
as the quantity of work undertaken with very little relevant information; no or very
little evidence of weekly progress and no Gantt Chart attached.
