Good day future scientist! I hope all is well. Prepare yourself because today you are
going to prove that you are practical and resourceful.
Sand and water, blood, air, wine and many more. There are many examples of mixtures
everywhere. Did you realize that? For domestic purposes, industrial purposes and research
work mixtures are separated to obtain pure substance. Today, we will discuss some of the
techniques in separating mixtures.
Simple Separation Method - heterogeneous mixtures can be separated into their respective
constituents by simple physical methods.
1. Filtration- process used for the separation of one substance from another, such as solids,
liquids, and gases, with the aid of an object known as filter.
Enrichment Activity 1: Arrange the jumbled letters inside the box to identify each method which was used to
separate the components of a mixture. (2 points each)
1. A process that spins the sample very rapidly that denser materials go to the bottom.
IONCENTGATRIFU
3. The process of heating a mixture of two liquids which have a difference in their boiling points.
TILLADISTION
4. The process used to separate the liquid in a solution from a soluble solid by quickly or slowly applying heat to the
mixture. PORATIONEVA
5. The process used for the separation of one substance from another with the aid of an object known as filter.
FTIONILTRA
Enrichment Activity 2: Go around inside your house, look for any mixtures. Try to separate the mixtures using the
applicable separation technique. Perform the activity and complete the table below. (10 points)
2.
Note: Provide proof showing that you conducted the activity. You may send your picture thru messenger (to your subject
teacher) or pass a short explanation on how you conducted the activity during retrieval of your answer sheets.

Read the paragraph. Use the words in the box to complete the statements below. (5 points)
At the end of the activity, I learned that there are different techniques to separate
mixtures. It can be classified as (1) _________ and special separation. Mixture can be separated into
their respective constituents by simple (2) _________ methods like (3) _________. Also, mixture can
be specially separated into their respective constituents by (4) _________ methods such as
evaporation, distillation, magnetic separation, (5) _________, and centrifugation.
