Central Park

Central Park in New York is the most famous city park in the world. It has more
than 25 million visitors every year. Central Park is a very interesting place to
visit. If you are keen on sport, you can go running, play tennis or ride a horse
there. It is also a good place for children because it has 21 playgrounds.

In the summer, Central Park has a swimming pool. It opens in July and lots of
visitors go there when it is very hot. In the winter, the water changes to ice.
People can go ice-skating on the pool.

Central Park first opened in 1859. A few years later, in 1871, Central Park Zoo
opened. The zoo now has 1,400 animals. The visitors enjoy watching the polar
bears. They are called Gus and Ida. There are also a lot of monkeys. In 2010
the zoo bought four King Penguins.

Another important place in Central Park is Belvedere Castle. It is in the highest


part of the park. The tower on top of the castle is very tall. People used to go
there to take photos of the park. Now, the castle is a weather station. People
work there and study the clouds and the wind.
