Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one clear
sentence): Book reviews/sophie’s perfect summaries
What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:
“Why do we read?”
“would creating summaries for books, produce an incentive for students in schools of British Columbia?”
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
I enjoy reading, I love the idea of getting lost in another reality and story line of a character. I decided to
choose doing book reviews and reading in general because I am currently in a reading slump. Doing this as
my capstone will help me as a person gain interest in reading again and help others gain interest in reading.
Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?
I started to get into reading about 3 years ago.I have currently been in a reading slump for the past 5
months and have slowly gotten back inot reading. That being said, I started off with murder mystery books
and then changed to romance and mysteries. One of my favourite books is the The Inheritance Games by
Jennifer Barnes, the book is about a girl Avery Grambs who went from being poor to owning a football
team, multiple hotels and a huge mansion. She became a multi millionaire over night all because she was
mysteriously put on the will of the Tobias Hawthorne.
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
This will somewhat help me with teaching and my acedemic side, writing the reviews and summarising
them will help improve my english and skill level of writing in general. This could help with my writing skills
0
for my future career.
Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.
Creative Thinking
Novelty and Value:
I can create an idea for future readers, express that through my writing and improve my writing skills while
doing so.
Generating Ideas:
When reading I will have to anaylize the story and discover and unfold the messages behind them. I will be
able to show and create my response to the stories and show my understanding in the reviews.
Developing Ideas:
I will be able to show my idead through my writing and undestand the meanings. I can take my ideas and
put them into my reviews to show that I am learning and to show my progress.
Communication
Connect and engage with others:
When expressing my opinion I will connect with others as well and show how my opnion can connect with
others.
Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or PPT
o Physical portfolio
o Website
o iMovie presentation
o YouTube channel
I hope to use some sort of website with a blog page, or possibly Instagram but my last source would be
Instagram. I will present my capstone on powerpoint and talk about the reviews and books and how each
book affected me. The powerpoint will show the basic parts of how many books I read between the time of
March and June. My goal is to read around 5 books, I may re-read a few since some are so well written.
1
Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.
My capstone idea will be based on creating book summaries for other readers. I will be researching how to
create a blogging website and learn how to write properly. With that being said I will be reading books,
writing summaries, and blogging about why I read the book and if I liked or disliked it. When reading the
books I will give feedback and or short summaries about the books. The books I will be reading are The
Inheritance Games, The Hawthorne Legacy, The Final Gambit, Meet Me At The Lake, Archers Voice, and
Every Summer After. I own 3 of these books and either borrow the book or buy them. I have a few friends
to whom I have given book reviews already. One of my friends is currently reading a book I gave them and
so far she enjoys it. Each book I will be reading will be annotated, reviewed, and summarized. I will write a
journal blog after each book. The main idea why I chose my capstone is because I love reading, I love the
idea of reading, the aesthetic and just overall being in a book. When being in a book I mean going into the
fictional and imaginary part of the read. Some people don’t have the patience to read or overall don’t want
to pick up a book, that is why I will be creating a blog page to update people who either struggle with
picking up a book or want to read more but don’t know where to look. While creating my capstone I will be
reading up to 5 books, Between each read I will have around 3 weeks to finish each book. I have finished a
book in under 2 days once so I do believe this will be an easy challenge for me. Since I will be going away
in April and May that will help me read more. If I somehow finish all 5 books before May I will add another
book to the collection. In conclusion, I believe making book summaries will help my writing skills, and want
to create a book.
Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.
I need a laptop or a phone to express my opinion and show my work. I will also need books to read which
I have a few already I just need to either borrow them or buy them.
So far I do not have any, later on in my capstone I may have a mentor but for now, I do not have one
written down.
2
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?
Some might not be interested in the reviews or summaries of the books, there may also be problems with
creating a site including the books. Reading in general, if I have not read the amount of books that I said I
would, it would be a bit of a problem since I planned to read 5 books in under 3 months. Another limitation
would be not having a book to read, that being said I could possibly not afford to buy another book or I
run out of time to read.
Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
I may include information about my friends who have influenced me to read certain books.
References: Provide a literature review of 5-10 PEER REVIEWED ACADEMIC references: research,
videos, etc. that offer some preliminary research you have done for your project that shows you are able
to access the key information that you will need to be able to complete this project/work. Your list should
be written using correct APA formatting.
Using this review academic source will guide me on how to guve a review/summary.
