A320 Fire and Protection System

The fire protection system on an Airbus A320 has smoke and fire detection and extinguishing systems for the engines, APU, cargo compartment, and lavatories. Each engine and the APU have a fire detection system with two detection loops that trigger a fire warning if heat is detected in either loop. The engines and APU are equipped with fire extinguisher bottles that discharge when their fire pushbuttons are activated. Tests of the systems cause fire lights and sounds to activate to check operation.
