ECEG2121-Worksheet I I

This document contains a 10-question worksheet on fundamentals of electric circuits. The questions involve using concepts like Kirchhoff's laws, Ohm's law, and voltage and current divisions to analyze various circuit diagrams and calculate values like resistance, voltage, current and power. The final question involves using a thermistor-based circuit to determine resistor values that will cause an alarm to sound when temperature falls below freezing.

Q#9

(a) Determine the values of i, v, and Req for the circuit shown in Figure Q#9a, given that

Q#10

The circuit shown in Figure Q#10 below is designed to help orange growers protect their
crops against frost by sounding an alarm when the temperature falls below freezing. It
contains a thermistor that has a resistance 𝑅0 = 620Ω at the temperature 𝑇0 = 200 𝐶 = 293𝐾
and 𝛽 = 3330𝐾.

𝛽 −
𝑅 𝑇 = 𝑅0 𝑒 𝑇 𝑇0

The alarm will sound when the voltage at the –ve input of the comparator is less than the
voltage at the +ve input. Using voltage division twice, we see that the alarm sounds
whenever :

𝑅2 𝑅4
<
𝑅𝑇 + 𝑅2 𝑅3 + 𝑅4

Determine the values of 𝑅2 , 𝑅3 , and 𝑅4 that cause the alarm sound whenever the
temperature is below freezing.
