Unit 4 Review 4

1. The document provides instructions and questions for a science assignment on energy flow and climatographs. Students are asked to calculate changes in temperature, energy, and specific heat capacity for various substances as well as construct climatographs for two cities. 2. The assignment requires students to analyze climatographs and summarize the climate and biome for each city. They must also explain differences in climate between the cities using facts from the data. 3. Students are asked to describe general trends in the climatographs and characteristics of the biome for each city. The assignment focuses on concepts of energy, heat transfer, and analyzing climate data to understand different biomes.

marks)

2. How much energy is required to raise the temperature of 600 g of ethanol from 15 °C
to 67 °C? (2 marks)

3. 40000 J of energy were used to raise the temperature of a beaker of warm water from
0.0 °C 50 ° C. What is the mass of the water? (2 marks)

4. Calculate the specific heat capacity of sugar if it takes 150 000 J to increase the
temperature of 1200 g of sugar by 25 °C? (2 marks)

5. 50 000 J of heat energy was required to raise the temperature of a 500 g substance to
46.0 °C. What is the specific heat capacity of this substance? (2 marks)

6. If 5.00 kJ of energy are added to 500 g of water at 25.0oC, calculate the final
temperature of the water. (2 marks)
7. 35.0 kJ of energy are injected into 400 g of water and the final temperature becomes
90.0oC. What was the original temperature? (2 marks)

8. Calculate the amount of energy required to convert 100 g of ice at 0.00oC to water at
0.00oC. (3 marks)

9. Calculate the amount of energy involved when 250 g of steam at 100oC is condensed
to water at 100oC. (3 marks)

10. 150 kJ are required to melt 20.0 moles of a solid at its melting temperature. Calculate
the molar heat of fusion of the solid. (2 marks)
