Lesson 7 : Integers

Integer – originated from the Latin word “ integer “ which means whole or intact
- collection of whole numbers and negative numbers

Examples : 6, -8, 20, 25, - 15

“ Z ” – symbol used to represent integer

Z = {….-8, -7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…}

Types of Integers

1. Zero integer – neither a positive nor a negative integer


- neutral number
- has no sign ( + or - )

2. Positive integers - natural numbers


- counting numbers
- lie on the right side of 0 on a number line
3. Negative integers – lie on the left side of 0 on a number line
