"Looking for a Rain God" is about an African family's desperate


struggle against a drought that results in a tragic outcome. An African
village is plagued by a 7- year drought. Almost all the villagers suffer
from starvation as they are dependent on the rain to grow their crop.
The rain finally comes and many families rush out to continue
farming. Mokgobja and his family are one of the first to clear and plow
their land. Their hopes are shattered when the rain was not sufficient to
cultivate the land. Fearing the starvation that they have to face the
following year, Mokgobja's daughter-in-law and her sister, become
hysterical.
Mokgobja remembers an ancient rain-making ceremony that
involves the ritual sacrifice of young children to appease the rain god.
Mokgobja and his son Ramadi, sacrifice Ramadi's two young daughters
expecting rain. Unfortunately, the rain does not fall. Finally, Mokgobja
and his family return to the village, filled with despair, guilt, and fear of
their deeds.
The other villagers could not see the children and become
suspicious about the missing children. Soon, the police arrive and Tiro,
the children's mother reveals the truth. Finally, Mokgobja and his son
are sentenced to death for religious murder.

The Cat’s Head
Lucy caught the bus and headed into town. She ended up in an
Oxfam charity shop. She fancied a little something to cheer herself up,
maybe a piece of jewellery or a new top. Suddenly, she spotted
something strange and unusual and it was just her cup of tea: the head
of a black cat! She picked it up and it was heavy: maybe it was made of
stone, or coal, but maybe it was obsidian or ebony, and it was only a
couple of quid. Then she thought, it might be ancient Egyptian! Wasn’t
there a cat god? And it might bring her luck! She bought it. At the next
charity shop she popped in, there was a raffle. Five tickets for a pound.
She bought ten. She rubbed her lucky black cat. However, all the tickets
were losers! The cat hadn’t brought her any luck at all! When she got
home, she put it on the mantelpiece and forgot about it.
The next day, she lost her job. The day after that, she tripped over
and sprained her ankle. Two days later, a strong wind blew six tiles off
her roof. That morning, she took the cat’s head back to the Oxfam shop.
She decided that, even if it was made of black diamond, she didn’t want
it. It had brought her bad luck.
Over the next three months, Lucy got a much better job than her
old one. She bumped into the handsome doctor who had treated her
ankle and he asked her out. They are now an item.
One morning, she remembered the cat and she rushed to the charity
shop. It was no longer there. A woman called Serena had bought it, but
that’s another story!

Sophie Frost, a schoolgirl from England, felt very lucky when her

Sophie was going for a walk with her friend, Mason Billington, when it

and took them to hospital. Sophie had some burns on her chest and legs.
She also had some damage to her eyes and ears but fortunately she

serious injuries? When the accident happened, she wasn’t listening to
music on the player, but was wearing it around her neck. Doctors believe
that the lightning travelled through the wire of the MP3 player instead

What is a Bank? Banks are places where people can keep their money.
Most people use banks to save money in their savings accounts and to

Thivyaanayagi Rajendran, who was only 20-years-old, was believed to
committed suicide, leaving behind a note that suggested that she had
fallen victim to cyberbullying. The incident was said to have happened
after a video clip of Thivya and her Bangladeshi colleague reenacting a
scene from a Hindi song on the video sharing platform TikTok was
shared by another Facebook user, who ridiculed her for supposedly
‘dating’ a foreigner. The mocking caption, which the admin wrote in
Tamil, reads: “No matter what anyone says, never leave me. In a matter
of time, netizens will be giving you their ‘blessings’.” Harsh, scathing and
completely unwarranted comments soon followed after a number of
fake Facebook accounts, including one with as many as 70,000 followers,
made the video viral. Many had condemned her for being with a
Bangladeshi worker, while others suggested she was an ‘easy character’.
The Facebook page and online users drove her to commit suicide.
“Thivya did not only suffer from cyber bullying but people started to
recognise her from the video.” said Thivya’s sister, R. Logeswari. Despite
calls to the administrators of the various Facebook pages to take down
the video and with a report filed to the police on 16th May, FMT
reported that the video continued to remain on social media. It wasn’t
until her death did the videos get taken off social media. According to
her family, Thivya was already engaged to her boyfriend of three years,
and were to be wed in December. There was absolutely no truth to the
claims that she was dating her colleague.
“The reason I am taking this decision is because Joker Oruvan put my
video on Facebook and spoiled my name and family name,” she wrote in
her suicide note. Thivya’s family is now seeking justice over her untimely
and sudden death, with Seberang Perai city councillor P David Marshel
calling upon the government to look further into matters of cyber-
bullying, lest more cases like this are reported. The offending Facebook
account has since been disabled, but netizens across Malaysia are
continuing to call upon the authorities to seek justice for Thivya. Many
are sharing her devastating story, making it known to everyone that
online trolling and cyberbullying can have a huge impact on someone.
