Course Learning Outcomes :

At the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Analyse the key features of different creative writing types. (C4, A3, P5, PLO3,
CTPS2)
2. Analyse how language is used and presented creatively through a variety of genres.
(C4, PLO3, PLO6, CTPS3, LL1)
3. Write a creative essay. (C6, A2, PLO3, CTPS4)
4. Generate online creative writing pieces for specific audience. (C6, P7, PLO2, PLO3,
CTPS7)

This continous assessment assesses learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Continuous Assessment Objectives

Students should be able to:

1. compile three creative writing materials based on different writing types and write
a reader response analysis on one selected material (CLO1 & CLO2)

2. compose a creative essay of about 500 words based on personal experience.

3. generate online creative writing entries based on three creative writing types for a
specific audience from the big idea Creativity Begets Excellence. (CLO4)
PROJECT ( 70%)

There are three tasks to the project : Task 1, Task 2, and Task 3.

Task 1:
Compilation and Analysis of Creative Writing based on Different Writing Types
and Reader Response ( 15% ) – Individual Task.

Compile creative writing materials based on three different writing types. Write a
reader response of about 500 words based on ONE of the selected examples
creatively.

Guidelines :
a. Compile creative writing materials based on three different creative writing types:

i. Prose fiction
ii. Prose non-fiction
iii. Poetry

b. Analyse how language is used and presented creatively in ONE of the selected
examples.

c. You may also examine their functions, i.e. foster artistic expression, stimulate
imagination and creativity, source of entertainment or to clarify thinking.

d. Using all the information above, write a reader response in about 500 words.

Task 2: Creative Essay (15%) – Individual

Writing is truly a creative art-putting word to a blank piece of paper and ending up with a
full-fledged story rife with character and plot”

Considering the excerpt above, write a creative essay of about 500 words based on your
personal real life experience during the Melewar Community Outreach Programme.

Take ONE significant photo during the Melewar Community Outreach Programme which will
play a dominant role in your creative essay.

Task 3: SBE: CREATIVE ONLINE WRITING ENTRIES (40%) - Individual

Teaching for creativity in writing requires not only knowledge, skills and
understanding, but the emotional capacity to tolerate uncertainty, take risks and
engage artistically.

Write descriptions of your SBE experiences and share them with your course mates digitally
via Google Site. You may expound on matters pertaining to your school activities or
classroom lessons observed based on the big idea: Creativity Begets Excellence. Express
your experiences using all the three writing types below:

a) Prose fiction
b) Prose non – fiction
c) Poetry

The accumulated length of your three types of creative writing entries should be about 1200
words. Your course mates should leave some comments/questions about your creative
writing entries and you may use these comments/questions to improve on your creative
writing.

Language Arts in the Primary Classroom (Task 3)
PROCEDURE

1. Discuss your work regularly with your lecturer(s) to ensure targets are met.
2. No duplication of assignments from other continous assessment will be allowed.
3. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated. Acknowledge all borrowed ideas and cite
accordingly. Cite the source of the text and any references you used using the APA
format .
4. Your work should be type written with 1.5 spacing and font Arial, size 11.
5. The cover page should adhere to the recommended continous assessment template.
6. The cover page should have the following information:
a. Student’s Name
b. Index Number
c. Identity Card Number
d. Class/Group
e. Course & Code
f. Lecturer’s Name
g. Date(s) of Submission
7. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late
submission will be dealt with severely. ( A deduction of maximum 5 marks )
8. The weightage of the project is 70%.
