Step 1 - What the customer wants

Example:
Search criteria

The first step is to translate what the

client is looking for to a patent search
Client input:

“ I want to find companies that designs

Client input:
bipolar plates for the fuel cell industry”.
Explanation of what they are looking for
and potential search criterias, eg
nationality of company.
3 example companies:

3 example companies, “optimal

companies”

Step 2 - Search and source data
Example:
Translating search
criterias into a search

When I know what the client is looking

for, I analyze the input provided in step 1
to create a patent search.

I mainly use the CPC classification system

to filter the global patent database to look
for, in this case, bipolar plate technology.

The CPC class system is a technology

labeling method that is used on all
patents.

Step 3 - Manually select the interesting
companies
Example:

Since a lot of the companies from a given

search will be not fulfill all criterias given
by a customer, for example not being
Patent
commercially active or being a current
search
customer, a manual selection process is through
necessary, with the output being a list of www.lens.org

companies that both are relevant from a

commercial perspective and have the
right patent data to conduct further work.
This list is reviewed by the client.

Step 4 - Find the most appropriate decision-
Patent save and management
through IAMIP Platform
maker Patent search

Patent
Once I know exactly which companies are
relevant, I proceed to find the most
relevant patents and the most relevant
decision-maker. This is a manual process,
which start with conducting a search on
each company name together with the google search for linkedin profile
relevant CPC classes from step 2 - the
goal is to find out if a relevant inventor of
a patent is also on linkedin. I google
“Company name + Inventor name” to find
their linkedin profile.

This needs to be done in order to make

sure the person is still working at the
company.

Step 5 - extracting linkedin data
Now I have a list of patents + list of
Example:
linkedin titles. I use Amplemarket to
gather data from the linkedin title, with
the output in csv format

Step 6 - Connecting linkedin + patent data
I export the selected patents from which I
Example:
found the inventors linkedin titles into
CSV format, then proceed to link the right
linkedin profile with the right patent.

After this step, I have a list of 20+ data

points about a decision maker, including
linkedin data and patent info.

Step 7 - Integrating data into Marketing
system

The data is uploaded into a system that

can send out automated communication
Example:
through linkedin and e-mail from my
clients. The datapoints are used as
“Dynamic fields”, or variables, in the
market communication so that every
sendout references the recievers patents.
