M7 Q3L6 Collinear and Coplanar Points

The lesson plan outlines a mathematics lesson on collinear and coplanar points. It aims to teach students to illustrate the relationship between points, lines and planes and define collinear and coplanar points. The lesson will present definitions and examples of collinear points, non-collinear points, coplanar points, non-coplanar points, and intersections of geometric figures like lines and planes. It will include student activities to apply the concepts and a short quiz to evaluate learning.

SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. illustrate the relationship between points, lines and planes;
B. define collinear and coplanar points.
II Subject Matter
Collinear and Coplanar Points

III Materials
PowerPoint Presentation, Board, Chalk
IV Procedure
A. Preparation
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Setting the class mode and environment
 Checking of prior knowledge

B. Lesson Proper / Presentation (The students will read the definitions)

The teacher will present the lesson about Undefined Terms in Geometry.
Collinear Points
 Collinear points are points that lie on the same line.

 Points A, B and C are collinear points.

Non- Collinear Points
 Non-collinear points are points that do not lie on the same line.

 Points A, B and C are non-collinear points.

Coplanar Points
 Coplanar points are points that lie on the same plane.
 Points A, B and C are coplanar points.
Non- Coplanar Points
 Non-coplanar points are points that do not lie on the same plane.

 Points A, B and C are non-coplanar points.

Intersection of Geometric Figures
The intersection of geometric figures is the set of all points that are common to
the given figures.

´ intersects BD
AC ´ at point C. Point C is the points of intersection.

The intersection of two lines is a point.

´ .
Plane C and D intersects at AB
The intersection of two planes is a line.
´ passes through plane C.
AB
Notice that common to both line and plane is point B.
Therefore, the intersection of a line and a plane is a point.
Note: The intersection of a line and a plane can be:
 An empty set if the line is parallel to the plane.

 A line if the plane contains that line.

Parallel Lines
The two lines do not have any point in common and even if you extend the two
lines, there will be no intersection.

´ and YZ
Plane C containing two lines WX ´ .
´ ∨¿ YZ
WX ´

Therefore, two coplanar lines that do not intersect are called parallel lines.
C. Generalization / Application
The students will answer the activity below.
Determine whether each of the following is TRUE or FALSE.

D. Evaluation (Quiz)
In a one whole sheet of paper, the students will answer the following.
Use the figure at the right to give what is being asked for each item.
