They That Wait On The Lord

Waiting on the Lord means trusting in Him and expecting His help during times of danger, want or difficulty. When we wait on the Lord, He will renew our strength like an eagle's feathers are renewed. God's timing is not like ours - He answers prayers with a yes, no, or wait. While waiting, we should pray, keep trusting, keep working according to God's ways, refrain from worries, and get prepared. Examples who waited on the Lord include Abraham and Sarah, Hannah, and Job. With faith and patience, God will work things out for those who wait on Him.

THEY THAT WAIT ON THE LORD….

ISAIAH 40:31

Introduction
At some point in our lives, we wait for things. When we write exams, we wait for the result.
When we go to the hospital, we wait for the Doctor and test results. When we wait and we do
not see the Doctor, some of us begin to protest and complain of bad service. The truth is man
hates to wait but to become what God wants you to be, you must go through the waiting
process. One of the important exhortations of the Bible is call to wait on the Lord.

Today, we will look at the meaning of waiting on the Lord, how long do you have to wait,
examples of people that waited upon the Lord, what do you do while you wait? And conclude.

What Does It Mean to Wait on the Lord

The word rendered 'wait upon' here (qâvâh), denotes properly to wait, in the sense of
expecting. The phrase, 'to wait on Yahweh,' means to wait for His help; that is, to trust in him, to
put our hope or confidence in Him. It is applicable to those who are in circumstances of danger
or want, and who look to him for his merciful interposition.

Isa. 40:31
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
When you wait on the Lord, He shall renew your strength. That strength comes from faith that
He will always come through. God restores and replenishes us when we wait on Him. It’s like
recharging our low battery phones

…they shall mount up with wings like eagles. See Psalm 103:5,
They shall put forth fresh feathers like the moulting eagle;' The eagle lives and retains his vigor
to a great age; and that, beyond the common lot of other birds, he moults in his old age, and
renews his feathers, and with them his youth. The eagle does not run from the storm, it uses
the storm to lift itself higher.

God will strengthen you during your time of waiting. His power will lift you up above the dark
clouds so you can ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and
disappointment in your lives. Show me a successful man, and I will show a man that has passed
through storms and has waited.

…they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
They will be strong and elevated. The Lord will sustain and uphold them. Isaiah 40:29 mentions
that “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.” His
grace is sufficient for us and our strength is renewed when we trust in Him.

When we wait and trust in God, He will grant us the courage to overcome obstacles and He will
give us His strength in place of our weakness.
How Long Do You Have to Wait?
The issue for many people is not the waiting but how long they need to wait for something they
desperately for their comfort and happiness. But there are some things we do not understand
as humans. God’s thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways– Isa. 55: 8-9. He
answers prayers with a Yes, No – my grace is sufficient you or Wait. God’s timing is not like ours.
He is not limited by time because He is the creator of time.

Paul said in 2 Cor. 12: 7-10 “Or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in
order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of
Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9. But he
said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s
power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in
hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong”.

No matter what the response is you must remain like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in
Dan. 3: 17 – 18 that even if you do not see answers to prayers as anticipated or expected, you
will not go after another God.

Examples of People that waited upon the Lord

2. Hannah waited for a son - 1 Samuel 1:1-20
3. Joseph waited for God’s breakthrough; he did not take short cuts – Gen. 50:20
4. Job went through trials and losses, yet He did not question God - Job 1:13-22; 42:10

What Do You Do while You wait?

1. Pray always- Romans 12:12; Philippians 4:6-7
2. Keep trusting and never give up – Psa. 46:10
3. Keep working and keep His ways – Psalm 37:34 Psalm 119:52, 54-55

5. Refrain from needless fears and worries – Psa. 56: 3-4
6. Keep getting ready – luck is when opportunity meets preparation.

Whatever it is that you are waiting for - future partner, good health, good job, peace etc. Trust
and believe, He will work it out for you. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him (Lam. 3:25).
If people despite you, don’t worry. The Lord will fight for you, don’t be in a hurry (Exo. 14:14)

Prayer
God, thank you for words. Please give me the strength to wait patiently for your will to be done
in my way. Give me the power, grace and faith to withstand any storm that may come my way.
Let me continue to know that you care for me. Let your will be done in my life. In Jesus name.
Amen.
