Cataracts SC 1

Cataracts develop when damage to the protein of the lens of the eye clouds the lens and impairs vision. Most people who live long enough will develop cataracts. Cataracts are more likely to occur in those who smoke, have diabetes, or are exposed to excessive sunlight as all of these factors lead to oxidative damage which appears to cause cataracts in animals and people. While no nutritional supplements or herbs can reverse existing cataracts, certain vitamins and minerals like vitamins B2, B3, C, beta-carotene, lutein, and quercetin as well as bilberry may help prevent cataracts from developing or progressing.
