1. You are allowed 15 minutes reading time before the examination begins during which you
should read the question paper and, if you wish, make annotations on the question paper.
However, you are not allowed, under any circumstances, to open the answer book and start
writing or use your calculator during this reading time.

1. (a) Due to an increase in Data processing requirements in your organization, there is
a need to establish an in-house data processing department. You have been
appointed as a team leader to establish this department.

Required:
Explain four reasons why you would want the following personnel to be
employed:-

(i) Data Processing Manager 4 Marks

(ii) Database administrator 4 Marks

(b) End user computing has been adapted by a number of employees in a


manufacturing organization.

(i) Identify benefits that have arisen due to usage of end user computing.
4 Marks
(ii) Explain four drawbacks that end user computing has brought. 4 Marks

(iii) Identify any four data fields that a sales clerk and a debtors clerk could be
using at the same time due to end user computing. 4 Marks

2. An information systems module needs to be developed in the organization. You are


requested to set up and lead a project team that would develop the new module.

Required:

(a) Why should it be approached as a project? 2 Marks


(b) Which six project deliverables would you include? 6 Marks
(c) Describe the set-up of the project team. 12 Marks

3. A bank has just been established in your area. It has over 20 branches spread across the
country. It will be linked up with all the other branches.

Required:
(a) Explain any five types of software that the bank must have to operate effectively.

(b) Describe any five hardware type and devices the bank may require to operate.

4. Horse race is done at sports clubs. It involves horses racing and the fastest horse wins.
Spectators come to the sports clubs and pay to watch a horse race. Recently there have
been problems with accountability in the following:

(1) Amount of money realized after the race


(2) Number of tickets and category of the tickets (VIP, covered, open stands)
(3) Number of people that attended the race at the club
(4) Disputes on which horse won

Required:

Automate the horse race process and ensure that the problems above are addressed by the
automation. 5 Marks each

5. (a) A system consists of an organized set of components. It exists within an


environment and is surrounded with a boundary of some sort. Changes to
business processes are inevitable and the world dynamics are constantly changing.

Required:

Discuss how changes in the following would affect manufacturing business process:

(iii) Competitors 2 Marks
(iv) Business partners 2 Marks
(v) Government and regulatory agencies 2 Marks

(b) There are different processing options that an organization may choose.
