The entire program was carried out within a matter of 15 days from 8/3/21 to 20/3/21.Each
day, the program was done in three separate sessions starting from morning 9:00 to afternoon
5:00. The layout of the activity program is given below: -
DATE 9 am to 11 am 11:30 am to 1 pm 2 pm to 5 pm
The AICTE Activity point program was organized by the Department of Information
Science & Engineering of our college, Don Bosco Institute of Technology from 9th March
2021 to 21th March 2021.The topic on which we, the 5th semester students had participated
was based on “Women Empowerment”. In this activity we had to go to village in
channapatna which is situated at Ramanagara district at a distance of 20 kms from our
institution. There we had to spread awareness about women empowerment in the village,
school, and even few public places as a part of our activity program.
During the activity session, we were assisted by the local school Head master, and the
staff, students of the village school. We were also given guidance by our lecturers. We were
also given full support by our HOD, Mrs. Gowramma, without whose guidance this program
was impossible.
The most interesting part of this activity was to educate the students of that
government school. This was a quite tough task but through our work force we managed to
accomplish it.The entire activity program was no less than adventure because of the
marvelous natural recourses in the village. It is also nice place to visit as it has the remarkable
terrain structures. In total I would say that the activity program was a good experience and
the entire activity was completed without any errors.
It was done in 3 sessions with breaks in between. The materials required for
performance of the tasks were provided by the college. We had to make use of them correctly
so that they could also be reserved for later usage.
We also gained the support of the local village students who co-operated with us in
our work. We also express our thankful gratitude to their supportive approach. We believe
that by performing this activity we were able to convey a message to the locals about the
importance about women empowerment.
“Women Empowerment”
Women empowerment refers making women powerful to make them capable of
deciding for themselves. Women have suffered a lot through the years at the hands of men. In
earlier centuries, they were treated as almost non-existent. As if all the rights belonged to men
even something as basic as voting. As the times evolved, women realized their power. There on
began the revolution for women empowerment.
As women were not allowed to making decisions for them, women empowerment came
in like a breath of fresh air. It made them aware of their rights and how they must make their own
place in society rather than depending on a man. It recognized the fact that things cannot simply
work in someone’s favor because of their gender. However, we still have a long way to go when
we talk about the reasons why we need it.
In India, women empowerment is needed more than ever. India is amongst the countries which
are not safe for women. There are various reasons for this. Firstly, women in India are in danger
of honor killings. Their family thinks its right to take their lives if they bring shame to the
reputation of their legacy.
Moreover, the education and freedom scenario are very regressive here. Women are not allowed
to pursue higher education; they are married off early. The men are still dominating women in
some regions like it’s the woman’s duty to work for him endlessly. They do not let them go out
or have freedom of any kind.
In addition, domestic violence is a major problem in India. The men beat up their wife and abuse
them as they think women are their property. More so, because women are afraid to speak up.
Similarly, the women who do actually work get paid less than their male counterparts. It is
downright unfair and sexist to pay someone less for the same work because of their gender.
Thus, we see how women empowerment is the need of the hour. We need to empower these
women to speak up for themselves and never be a victim of justice.
The activities carried out in the village are given in detail in day wise order. Each day the
activities were done having different sessions.
Session 1: 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Session 2: 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
Session 3: 2 pm to 5 pm.
DAY 1: 09/03/21
The first session of the activity program began with the inauguration by the principal
of our college. We had to travel to channaptna where we were supposed to do the
activity, which took almost 1 hour from our college to reach there. On reaching the
village, all the students gathered together where we were all divided into 4 different
groups. We were assigned separate task by the program coordinators based on the
respective groups.
The program started by lighting lamp by the local school head master and our
department HOD. They also gave a small speech about the objective of doing this
activity. That was all for day 1 of the activity.
DAY 2: 10/03/21
This was the second day of the activity our job was to spread awareness about education. We
had to carry required things to make them be aware on the topic which we are guiding them.
There were many people who were not aware of importance of education. We made them be
aware of importance of education. Since the day was very sunny, most of us got exhausted,
so we took breaks in between and were finally able to complete assigned task.
DAY 3: 11/03/21
This was the third day of the activity program. On this particular day, we had to
discuss about social issues. We started to guide them throughout and made them
interactive. We were able to achieve in guiding and bought awareness about our
activity.
It was a teamwork.
DAY 4: 12/03/21
This was the fourth day of the activity. This day was assigned for us to
spread awareness about job opportunities. The job seemed to be quite tough in the
beginning but we got the zeal to complete the necessary job. Here we visited many
people and we told them about various job opportunities for women.
DAY 5: 13/03/21
This was the 5th day of activity. On this day, our job assigned to give better
explanation about importance of economic independency. Time assigned was
quite short due the weather, so we had to do a part of the assigned job.
DAY 6: 14/03/21
This was the 6th day of our activity. The job assigned on this day was one of
the important topics in the activity list. We had to educate them about various loan
facilities made available by the government and the banks for women.
