Install HR Application using Plugins

Additional Practice 25 - 30 Minutes

Lab Objective
You will achieve the following objectives:
• Install HR application using Plugins
Lab Dependency: Personal Developer Instance

Note: If you are working in your student instance, you will not need to install the plugin.
It was preinstalled for you. However, you may read through this lab to understand the
process. If you are completing this lab in your organization’s non-prod instance, you
may need to modify the instructions accordingly. Obtain permission before installing.

Section 1: Install Human Resources Scoped App: Core

1. From your Personal Developer Instance, ensure you are logged in as System Administrator.
Note: In a real-world scenario, you would ensure you are logged into your non-
production environment before installing plugins. Plugins are not easy to uninstall.
2. Navigate to All > System Definition > Plugins.
3. Close the redirection pop-up message.

4. On the search bar, type Human resources scoped app: core.

5. Locate the Human Resources Scoped App: Core in the search results list, then select Install.
Note: This plugin may take 25+ minutes to install.
6. The Activate Plugin pop-up window will appear. Review the information and determine the
following:
• Is this a free plugin?
• What do you do, to find out if your organization or instance has a subscription for this
plugin?

7. Continue to review the information and determine:

• What files are not installed due to plugin dependencies?
8. Scroll to the bottom of the window. On Load demo data, select the check box.

9. Select Activate.
Note: It may take up to 10 minutes to activate the plugin and load demo data. While
you wait, use the time to look up more information on ServiceNow Documentation.
10. On new browser tab, go to docs.servicenow.com.
11. Search for Components installed with Case and Knowledge Management.

12. Review the Roles installed.

13. Based on this information, how would you answer these questions?
• If a user called and said, I’m on the HR service desk, I can’t create cases! What might be
the issue?
• If an employee left the company, what role would they need to access only information
that is appropriate for former employees?
14. When the plugin install has completed, select Close & Reload Form.
15. On the All menu, locate the HR Case Management application.
16. Create a favorite for the HR Case Management application.

Section 2: Verify HR Application and Demo Data Installed

1. Navigate to All > HR Case Management > All HR Cases > All.
2. Confirm demo data records are visible on the list.

Note: It is very important that you install demo data only in non-production instances,
like the Development environment. If you accidentally install demo data in Production,
it is tricky to remove. A support.servicenow.com case would need to be submitted to
get demo data removed.

Congratulations! You have completed this lab.
