The document describes designing a MATLAB model of a photovoltaic solar battery management system (BMS) to determine the state of charge (SOC) and state of discharge (SOD) under varying temperature and irradiance conditions. The methodology involves building a Simulink model of the BMS using a solar PV array and collecting random duty cycle and error values in Excel to input into the model. Running simulations while changing temperature and irradiance produces graphs from which the SOC and SOD are tabulated. Results show the BMS charges when irradiation is high and discharges when it is low, and temperature has a minor effect but high temperature combined with high irradiation leads to charging. SOC and SOD of Battery Management System

Exp No: 4
Date: 29/02/2024

1.1 Objective:
To find the state of charging and state of discharging of PV solar BMS by changing temperature and
irradiance.

1.2 Problem Statement:

Design the MATLAB model of PV solar BMS and find the SOC and SOD for different temperatures
and irradiance.
ip: double array of 577 observations with 1 features (28.8 to -28.8)
op:double array of 577 observations with 1 features (0.3 to 0.876)

1.2 Simulation / Program Tool:

Simulink, Excel

1.4 Methodology:
 Design the Simulink model of BMS using solar PV array with specified values.
 Take random values of duty cycle and errors in excel sheet and then copy pasting it in New
variable section in Simulink. Design an ANN box according to the values inputed and paste the
block in the model.
 Change the values of temperature and irradiance to measure SOC and SOD.

1.7 Conclusion
Thus, the Simulink model of PV Solar BMS has been designed and SOC and SOD are tabulated from
the graphs observed.

1.8 Inference
 When the irradiation has a huge value , the battery management system goes into charging state
and when it has low value, the BMS goes into discharging mode.
 Temperature plays a minor role in determining the state but high temperature combined with
huge irradiation value, makes the BMS operate in charging state and vice versa.
 Irradiance will also affect module performance, with a reduction of sunlight resulting primarily in
a reduction in current and consequentially a reduced power output.
