1. The topic of this essay is school uniforms. What is the hook in the first paragraph?
Answer: The hook of in the first paragraph is “individualism is a fundamental part of society
in many countries”.

2. What is the thesis statement?


Answer: The thesis statement is “should public school students be allowed to make
individual decisions about clothing, or should all students be required to wear a uniform?
School uniforms are the better choice for three reasons”.

3. Paragraph 2, 3, and 4 each give a reason for requiring uniforms. These reasons can be found
in the topic sentence of each paragraph. What are the reasons?
Answer:
- Paragraph 2: Wearing school uniforms would help make students lives simpler.
- Paragraph 3: School uniforms influence students to act responsibly in groups and as
individuals.
- Paragraph 4: School uniforms would help make all the students feel equal.
