Class 10 - Mathematics
Standard Sample Paper - 04 (2023-24)

Solution

Section A
1. (d) pq
Explanation: Two positive integers are expressed as follows:
a = pq2
b = p3q
p and q are prime numbers.
Then, taking the smallest powers of p and q in the values for a and b we get
HCF (a, b) = pq
2. (b) 1
Explanation: The number of zeroes is 1 as the graph intersects the x-axis at one point only.
3. (a) x = 3, y = 2
Explanation: We have:
2x + 3y = 12 …(i)
3x – 2y = 5 …(ii)
Now, by multiplying (i) by 2 and (ii) by 3 and then adding them we get:
4x + 9x = 24 + 15
13x = 39
x= =3
39

13

Now putting the value of x in (i), we get

2 × 3 + 3y = 12
12−6
∴ y= 3
=2
4. (a) 2p + q, 2p - q
Explanation: Given: x2 - 4px + 4p2 - q2 = 0
⇒ (x - 2p)2 - q2 = 0
Using a2 - b2 = (a + b) (a - b),
⇒ (x - 2p + q)(x - 2p - q) = 0
⇒ x - 2p + q = 0 and x - 2p - q = 0
⇒ x = 2p - q and x = 2p + q

Explanation: In the figure, quadrilateral ABCD is circumscribed touches the circle at P, Q, R and S

AP = 5 cm, BC = 7 cm, CS = 3 cm AB = ?
Tangents drawn from the external point to the circle are equal
AQ = AP = 5 cm

Let PB = a meters and BD = b meters Then PD = PB + BD = (a + b) m

In right angled triangle APB, we have

⇒a + b = 4500

Now, In △AOP
∠ A = 180o - 60o - 90o

26. To make all the plates identical and find the greatest number of plates, we have to find the greatest number which can
divide 12 and 16 exactly.
That is nothing but H.C.F of 12 and 16.
H.C.F of (12, 16) = 4
That is, 12 pieces of chicken would be served in 4 plates at the rate of 3 pieces per plate.
And 16 rolls would be served in 4 plates at the rate of 4 rolls per plate.
In this way, each of the 4 plates would have 3 pieces of chicken and 4 rolls. And all the 4 plates would be identical.
Hence, the greatest number of plates Lenin can prepare is 4.
