READING COMPREHENSION
Leonardo Di Caprio , the star of Romeo and Juliet and Titanic, was born on
November 1974. He got his first job as an actor at the age of 5 in a TV show
called “Romper Room”.
At school Leo didn’t do well. “I only had good grades when I sat next to someone
very smart”, he told us. At 12 he decided to become an actor. He did TV roles
and commercials at first. Then he starred in This boy’s life with Robert de Niro
and became famous. He won an Oscar nomination for his part in What’s eating
Gilbert Grape? but he didn’t win. “Tommy Lee Jones won the Oscar” he said to
our reporter “I was glad. I didn’t want to stand up and speak in front of all those
people”. In The quick and the Dead Sharon Stone kissed him. “It was a very
quick kiss. I didn’t enjoy it very much”

Wilbur Wright (1867 - 1912) Orville Wright (1871 - 1948)
The American brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright had a bicycle shop in Dayton,
Ohio. They wanted to fly, and studied all the flying books. First they made kites.
Then they started to design “gliders” (aeroplanes with no engines). Glider number
3 worked. It flew 1000 flights. Then they made the world’s first working aeroplane
with an engine. It was called Flyer Number 1. In 1903, Flyer Number 1 flew flew
260 metres at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
The Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci is famous because of his paintings and
drawings. But da Vinci wasn’t only a painter; he was also an architect and an
engineer. In fact he designed the world`s first helicopter 500 years ago, but he
didn’t make one.
