MAGKASUYO: GOOD FRIEND DANCE

What is “Magkasuyo”?

Originating from Quezon is a simple and easy dance called “magkasuyo”


which literally means good friend or sweethearts. It maybe danced on any
occasion.
Costume: Girls wear balintawak style of costume.
Boy wear barong tagalog and white trousers.
Music: composed of two parts A and B
Count: one, two, three to measure
Formation: partners stand opposite each other about six feet apart. The girl
stands at the right side of the boy when facing the spectators.

What are the dance figures of ‘magkassuyo’?

I.
Music A.
Partners face each other.
a. Step R foot forward and close L foot rear in R, cross L foot backward
and slightly bend, arms sideward holding skirt (girls) arms at the bac
(boys)…….2
b. Waltz sdwd R&L, arms in lateral position, moving sdwd R&L………..8m
c. Step R sideward (ct.1). brush L forward (ct.2), tap L in front (ct 3). girls
hold skirts. Boy place hands on waist.

a. Four touch step, R and L alternately. Girls hold skirts. Boy places hand

forward to partner’s place. Pass each other by R shoulders, hand ass

Do is-do, starting with R foot, take four waltz steps forward passing R
shoulder and four waltz steps backward passing L shoulders. Arms in
