The Alphabetical Order
In the 12 Lessons that preceded, we had presented to you all the Thamizh
letters. The presentation has been made in the order of simplicity in the written forms.
In this lesson, we present to you the Alphabetical order of the Thamizh vowels and
the Thamizh consonants. You should know the Alphabetical order. It will help you in
the use of dictionaries as the entries in the dictionaries are arranged in the alphabetical
order. It will also help you in locating the information you need in an address book,
an anthology of poems, a glossary, an encyclopedia or any such collection where
entries are listed in alphabetical order. So learning the alphabetical order is of practical
relevance.

Consonants

In the second part of this lesson, we present the Thamizh consonants in their
alphabetical order. As you see, all the consonants are marked with a dot above them.
These consonants are mute because it is difficult to pronounce them in isolation.
Usually the vowel i is prefixed while pronouncing the mute consonants. Listen to
their pronounciation now in the same alphabetical order. You may now turn to the
