Name: Paula Grace B. Ramiscal

I’m having trouble with my depression. I don’t tell my problems to other people, even my
family because I know they will just think that I’m over acting. I just cry at night where no
one sees me. I actually want to seek help from a Psychiatrist or Counselor, but no one will
be there for me. I also have trouble financially so I can’t afford to seek formal help from a
professional.
*What I Have Learned: Activity 2.2
In What Way Will Counseling Empower Me?
Instruction:
In our discussion on counseling goals, John McLeod contends that: “Counseling aims to empower the
client by helping him/her make critical decisions in life, develop ability to cope, enhance effectiveness
and improve quality life.”
1. What do you think about this statement? Do you accept or support it? How will it empower you?
Explain your answer.
2. Write your answer in the box.

I agree of John McLeod content because counseling can help people to pinpoint problems and
understand aspects of the problems that may be improved. They can also identify negative or illogical
thinking patterns that contribute to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, and to develop a more
positive outlook. Explore learned thoughts and behaviors that create or maintain problems.

explanation why the statement is incorrect.

Technically speaking, " counselor " means "advisor." It involves two people working together to
solve a problem. It is a term that is used in conjunction with many types of advice giving.
Counseling will help individuals obtain information, and to clarify emotional concerns that may
interfere with or be related to the decisions involved.

2. What can you say about counseling in the Philippines?

Counseling is on its way to professionalization and regulation. Counseling is growing in depth
and credibility, as evidenced by applications in practice that are not only indigenous
but powerfully relevant.
