Real Life Situation

Rica deposited 5,000 pesos in an account with 6% interest compounded semi-annually. After 3 years, there was 5,970.26 pesos in the account. In a number guessing game, Rica asked for the original number if the result was 50 after a series of operations. The original number was determined to be 2. For a bacteria culture starting with 1000 bacteria that grew to 10,000 after 10 minutes, the growth model was determined to be f(t)=1000e0.23t, and the number of bacteria after 3 years was calculated to be approximately 9.54534 x 1020 bacteria.

Real Life Situation

Exponential Function
Rica deposited 5,000.00 pesos in an account that offers 6%
interest compounded semi-annually. How much money is in her
account at the end of three years?

Given:
A=?
P= 5,000
n= semi-annually =2
r= 6% .06
t= 3

Solution:
A=5000 ¿ ¿
6
A=5000 (1+.03)
A= 5000 (1.03)6

A=5,970.26

Inverse Function
Rica and I are playing number guessing game. Rica ask me to
think a positive number and then add 3 to the number, after that
find the square root of the resulting number and multiply it to 4.
Divide the result by 2, if you are in my situation and you get a
result of 50 (a) write an inverse function that will give you the
original number and (b) determine the original number.

√ √
2 ¿ x 50
f(x)= 4 (x +3) ¿ 2 = √( y =3)2 f

Logarithmic Function
In a bacteria culture, an initial population of 1000 bacteria
growth to 10,000 oafter 10 minutes. Assume that the growth of
bacteria follows an model f(t)= Ae xt representing the number of
bacteria after t-minutes. (a) find A and k (b) used the model to
determine the numbers of bacteria after 3 years.
