Working out
1) A circular flower bed has a diameter of 7m. Radius = Diameter ÷ 2
Work out the area of the flower bed. = 7 ÷ 2 = 3.5 m

Area = Πr2 = Π x 3.52


7m = Π x 12.25 = 38.5
square m

Area of the flower bed is 38.5 square yards.


2) A cell phone mast has a range of 5km in all Area = Πr2 = Π x 52
directions. Work out the area covered by one mast. = Π x 25 = 78.5 square
km

5 km

Area covered by the mast is 78.5 km2.


3) A circular mirror has an area of 144Π square cm. Area = Πr2 = 144Π
What is the diameter of the mirror? If we divide both
sides of the equation
by Π, we get
r2 = 144
So r = √144 = 12 cm
If the radius is 12
