Example Assignment No.1 - Internal Wall Finishes

The document provides instructions for measuring and documenting internal wall finishes for a guest room and bathroom. It describes how to measure wall areas and account for openings like doors and wall tiles at different heights. Key steps include reading drawings and finish schedules, measuring wall dimensions and lengths between gridlines, and accurately deducting openings and other features like skirtings and wall tiles based on their heights. Red ink should be used to show deductions, and notation like "ditto" and "continued" should be included for clarity and standardization across assignments.

Example – Assignment no.

1 – internal wall finishes at Guest and Bath 3

 In this example, hypothetically, only wall finishes at Guest, and Bath 3 is measured.

 Before you start, you need to read the drawings (plan, section, elevation, and information).

 Refer to the schedule of finishes for the proposed type of finishes (very important!).

 Assume where appropriate when NO information is available.

 Start measurement with the type of finish and room by room.

Guestroom
 In Guestroom, as per Figure 1, there is a skirting covers the internal girth (assumed 100mm
high) on the wall. However, this skirting belongs to the internal floor finishes. Therefore, the
deduction of skirting has to be made for the height of the wall finish.
 For the length, describe the gridline, e.g., A-C/1.

 Use the internal girth dimension as the length of the wall finishes in the dimension column.

 In the case of Figure 2, when it comes to the door deduction, the door height D1 should be
less with skirting height (100mm). Same with D2. If not, a double deduction will be made.

 In bath 3, two types of wall finishes are wall tiles at 1500mm high and plaster and paint
(refer schedule of finishes). The “bottom” part of D2 for deduction is (1500 less 150 drops =
1350), while the “top’’ part of D2 for deduction is (2100 less 1350 = 750). Here drop 150mm
is deducted because it is not part of the wall finish, but it is part of the floor finish.

Remarks for standardisation

Due to many questions arise from the previous assignment and quiz, it is decided that based on
this example, all assignment should include:
Gridline
 Gridline must be included when measuring the dimension in the side cast.
Side cast
 Less or Add the dimension should be stated when less or adding dimension
Deduction
 All deductions should be in red ink and that include bracket
 As per this example, it shows how to deduct ditto, and the deduct last item is made

 As per this example, it shows how continued is used
