If Tonyo stayed at home and not left to find his mother, his father could have gotten more abusive. Also if he
stayed home instead of finding his mother, his mother would have stayed in Hong Kong not knowing the
situation of the family with their drunkard father.

If you were to change the ending of the story, how would it be?

If I were to change the ending of the story, I would make it so that not only does the mother come home to
see the situation of the family but also to bring her children to Hong Kong to stay with her with the money
she earned. This might make the children happier knowing that they could still see their mother and not be
abused by their father.
