CL - 7 - Exponents and Powers

1. The document discusses exponents and powers, including definitions and laws of exponents. It gives examples of exponent operations and multiple choice questions testing understanding of exponents. 2. The multiple choice questions test properties of exponents, such as am × an = am+n, evaluating expressions using exponent laws, and identifying true assertions and explanations involving exponents. 3. The document provides practice problems of different levels, from very short answer to long answer questions, involving operations with exponents, standard form notation, prime factorizations, and distance calculations using exponents.

PRACTICE WORKSHEET

Exponents and Powers

Points to Remember:
The exponents tells us that how many times the number should be multiplied. It is called the
Exponential form. This is written like this:

Here 10 is the base and 9 is the exponent and this complete number is the power. We pronounce it as
10 raised to the power 9. The exponent could be positive or negative.
This tells us that the number 10 will be multiplied 9 times, like, 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10
× 10
Laws of Exponents
If we have a and b as the base and m and n as the exponents, then
