Lining Up
● Arrive at class, greet teacher, give teacher names of students, line students up
● Line expectations: Line up at the door in list order, walk in single file line, keep one
wing space, follow the teacher, stay in your place, don’t cut ahead or fall behind, Follow
my speed. Silence when walking!
Seating
● Sit down, this will be your fixed seat till the end. COVID and our policy.
● Take attendance
● Now teacher makes a seating chart with student names and tables and posts on the
wall.
Hi, I’m Mr. / Ms. ____________ . Welcome to “Reading Time.” This Reading time is to get
better as readers, to love reading, to read books together, to learn words and sounds, to
learn English and we’re going to have fun doing it.
Expectations
1. Respect: Show respect, empathy and kindness to everyone at all times. Use nice
words.
2. Getting attention: Teacher says “One, Two Three All Eyes on Me! Students say:
“One, Two, all eyes on YOU.”
3. Seating: Sit sensibly, don’t rock your chairs, don’t lean the chairs.
4. Writing: Don’t write on the chairs, tables or anything unless instructed. Our shared
property.
5. Items: Use your own items and books only: don’t exchange, don’t touch, don’t take
anyone’s items.
6. Materials: There are baskets in front of you that contains your things. Take good care
of them. You will have a small reading book that you read from each day. Don’t open
it until you are told. Be careful with the books. Turn the pages carefully. Take good
care of your book.
7. Notebooks: “My writing notebooks.” are for you to write in to show us what you are
learning. Keep them neat. Only write what you are told. I’ll tell you what to write
and on which side – left or write, top or bottom. Follow my lead. Write with pencils
only.
8. Talking:
A. When I’m talking or reading – LISTEN. Don’t talk. Keep Silent.
B. If you have something to say raise your hand. If you have something urgent, such as
an important question or an emergency: Raise your hand without talking and wait to
be called on.
C. When someone is talking, listen. Do not interrupt anyone who is speaking to the
teacher or the group.
F. Turn and talk (teach this when needed) Taking turns , teacher decides who starts, One
talker- one listener
9. Toilets – Only go to the nearest toilet. You are allowed only 2 minutes. Move quickly there
and back. Sit quietly back in your seat without announcing anything.
10. Cleaning: How to clean –
● Everything goes back to the basket except for the My writing book + My poetry
book
● Basket goes beside your chair to the right
LESSON ONE
*Prep – Teacher writes Student Name Chart & Envelopes with Students Names
and cut out blank letter slips for each name
1. Point to their name on the name chart and take the envelope that has
their name written on it back to their seat.
2. Students write their name on their “My Poetry Notebook, then “My
Writing Notebook.” Teacher models this. First letter Capital, rest is
lowercase.
3. Design poetry notebook cover - up to teacher about design.
