N e w s l e t t e r
A very special welcome to Lisa Cowan, Harry Bates, Jessica Lester, Jayden Cron, Fathir Afriansyah and their families to Kaikorai Primary School!

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
What an amazing two weeks it has been! I have been thoroughly impressed with the friendliness and positive attitude of all of the students who I have met. I have also been impressed with the support the school receives from its parent community. Thank you to all who are involved with the walking buses, PMP, helping in classes, fundraising with the parent group, road patrol, taking sports teams or helping at senior swimming. Without your support we would not be able to provide the safe and rich experiences that we offer. I hope you enjoy and nd useful the new newsletter format. I plan to make greater use of all forms of communication to ensure our parent community is well informed. Kind regards, Simon Clarke

Junior News It is growing time in the Juniors as classes look at plants and how they affect our environment. We are planting seeds and watching them grow. We are learning about what helps a plant to grow. It is all very exciting as we watch to see whose bean, sunower or cress monsters will germinate rst. Fun Friday has started and for the next 6 weeks we are having lots of fun with Christmas activities. The fun part is that everyone gets to try each activity during the 6 sessions. Thank you to all the parents that come along to help. It wouldnt work as well without you.

Middle News
Serious fun, extending the walls of the classroom and lots of learning! Children from the Middle Syndicate plan to walk to the Botanical Gardens next week for a day of serious fun and learning in an environment outside the classroom. Each of the three classes will be exploring different, but interrelated, ideas and a theme of resilience and persistence will come through. One group, who has been wondering how artists use and show the effect of sunlight, plans to be artists and will be painting in an impressionist style in the Upper Gardens. Another group will be Explorers of the World, closely observing a range of things in the environment, while others will be nding sources of inspiration to create and share ideas using different media. The regular daily physical activity is undergoing some changes, in consultation with the children. The variety of activities will not only enhance tness levels but will allow children to exercise thinking strategies, contribute to their social well being and further develop positive attitudes to learning. Senior News - Our Electives programme continues to offer children opportunities to pursue their special
interests in depth. A range of creative activities are operating: cooking / food based activities, doodling, making musical instruments, creating animations, stone carving, exploring sticks and stones, learning about pets and animals, and a Christmas theme. The children are appreciative of the chance to work with different teachers and children from other classes. Mathematics All senior classes are learning about the properties of 3 dimensional shapes. They are: making 3D shapes from a variety of materials creating and describing cross sections. exploring the language of mathematics; describing the number of faces, edges and vertices

We leave from the corner of Highgate and Belgrave Cres (just along from Roslyn Kindergarten) at 8.20am every morning. You can either start at the beginning of the Walking School Bus or join the Walking School Bus along the way. There are three adults rostered on each day to walk with the children and make sure they get to school safely, and sometimes other parents walk with us as well.
