GENERAL PHYSICS 2 Module

This document contains questions about Coulomb's law, electric fields, electric flux, and Gauss's law. It asks the reader to: 1) Calculate the net electrostatic force on a charge from two other charges. 2) Find the electric field from a single point charge at two distances. 3) Compute the electric field halfway between two negative point charges. 4) Find the electric flux through different sides of a cube in a uniform electric field. 5) Calculate the electric flux through several closed surfaces involving multiple point charges.

GENERAL PHYSICS 2

Coulombs law (20 pts.)

1. Three charge particles are arranged in a line as shown in a figure : qa = -4 C, qb = 9 C and qc = -
11 C. Calculate the net electrostatic force on qb due to the other two charges.

Electric Field (20 pts.)

1. Calculate the electric field that a test charge will experience on the following distances from the
source charge of +5.02 x 10-13 C.
a. Distance from source charge: 2.04 x 10-3 m
b. Distance from source charge: 1.55 x 10-12 m
2. Two charges of -5.00 nC and -3.00 nC are 1.5 m apart. Compute for the electric field halfway
between them.

Electric Flux (20 pts.)

1. Find the flux through the top, left, and right sides of a cube of side 0.5 m when placed in a
horizontal uniform electric field of 8.0 N/C directed to the right.

Gauss’s Law (20 pts.)

1. Calculate the electric flux Φ for each of the closed surface a, b, c, and d. Note that q1 = 5 C, q2 =
10 C, q3 = -2 C, q4 = -8 C, q5 = 4 C, q6 = -1 C, q7 = 3 C, q8 = 7 C.
