1.1 SPRINKLER SYSTEM

A. Introduction

A fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection measure, consisting of alarm

valve, isolation valves, sprinklers, piping, fittings, supports etc.

Each area protected by sprinkler system shall have individual alarm valve and
other components as described above, along with flow switch, inspection test
connection and flush connection. Each of the alarm valves shall taps water from
nearest Sprinkler main.

The flow switch is provided with dry contacts for monitoring through fire alarm
system on the activation.

The sprinklers are of upright, pendent and Conventional Sprinklers and located
on branch pipes as per fire codes followed. The sprinklers have a bulb with
temperature rating of 68 deg C.

B. System Description

The Sprinkler System is designed to Ordinary Hazard III for Hawker Centre Area,
Determination of the areas/rooms to be protected by sprinkler shall comply with
SS CP52 Code: 2004.

Water flow switches are incorporated into the sprinkler system. Activation of any
one of the flow switches will result in sounding of the general alarm.
Simultaneously, a signal is transmitted by the Main Alarm Panel (located at the
first storey FCC Centre, near at FFL 1) to SCDF via the Decam line.

One number of 4-way breeching inlet for basement sprinkler tank is located at
Level 1. It’s readily accessible to SCDF in the event of emergency.
Pre-set pressure switches in the sprinkler pump room control the automatic
starting of the sprinkler pumps. In the event of fire, sprinkler bulb will break when
pre-determined operating temperature is attained and this will cause water
pressure to drop in the system. Once it reaches the pumps pre-set pressure the
jockey pump will cut-in, further drop in pressure will cause the duty sprinkler
pump to start automatically and run continuously until it is MANUALLY
STOPPED at the pump controller.

The incoming water supply from PUB mains supplies water to the
compartmented concrete sprinkler tank at Basement Sprinkler Pump Room. The
tank has a total effective water capacity of 190 m³. The tank is combined fire tank
with other stratas in the building.

3. The system is pressurized upto the control valve at a pressure of on the above
table through the pressurizing unit comprising of Jockey pump.
D. Operation Procedure

Normal Mode:
The Sprinkler system network shall be always pressurized with water from the
main pipe connected to pump dischrge. The Control Valves should be always in
open condition and the flushing line valve (2” gate valve) should be always in
closed condition.

Fire Mode:
The system consists of Sprinklers, which will be heated up in Fire condition. Due
to expansion of the liquid inside the glass tube, (Part of sprinkler) will burst and
the orifice of sprinkler will be opened. Water comes out from the orifice in a
pattern and sprinkled over automatically for the Fire to be quenched.

Resetting of Sprinkler System:

After the fire is extinguished, the fire Pumps has to be stopped manually and
reset all the pumps in manual mode.
Check the reservoir water level and replenish with fresh water.
Remove the busted sprinklers and replace with new one.
Now start the Jockey pump in manual mode and pressurize the system gradually
up to the system pressure.

Open the drain valve of sprinkler network and gradually open the network
isolation valve. Now the water will enter to the sprinkler network and the pressure
will increase also the water will escape through drain valve with air bubbles.
Close the drain valve after all the air bubbles is evacuated from the network.
Now the sprinkler network is fully charged and the system pressure will be equal
to the sprinkler network pressure.

Check once again for any leak or dropping of water from any part of system, and
finally put the system in automatic operation.

2. Operation & Maintenance Manual – Fire Control Units

2.1. Introduction

The ZP3 is a sophisticated intelligent fire detection system, designed for the protection of both small
and large buildings, as well as very large multi-building sites. It uses a modular design which allows
scalability from single panel systems, through to large multi-panel networked systems. A range of
hardware and software is available which allows purpose-made applications for all commercial and
industrial sites.

ZP3 is an analogue addressable system based upon the Ziton ZP operating system. It utilizes advanced
fire and smoke sensing techniques, with intelligent software which accurately recognizes real fires, and
provides early warning. Precision algorithms identify and, in most cases, eliminate false alarms. The
location of a fire is accurately identified.

The ZP3 system supports sensors, callpoints, and other devices, providing a high degree of flexibility. A
system comprises one or more ZP3 control panels, connected to fire and smoke sensors, and other
equipment to provide all the necessary functions.

Modular hardware includes remote indicator panels, mimic panels, local and remote inputs and outputs
for interfacing to third-party equipment, and interfaces to computer-based monitoring and building
management systems. Highly configurable software allows virtually any system requirement to be
simply programmed as required. The ZP3 system is suitable for both new buildings and existing
installations.

The complete system is actively monitored on a continuous basis, and provides complete reliability at all
times. Self-maintenance and diagnostics are built-in.

ZP3 fire alarm panels are available in 1, 2 and 4 loop versions, supporting up to 508 sensors per panel.
Built-in peer-to-peer networking capability allows up to 32 panels and over 16000 sensors to be
connected together, providing scalability from small to very large systems.

The complete ZP3 system is designed to comply with those parts of European Standard EN54 which
have been published. ZP3 panels comply with EN54 (parts 2 and 4), and sensors comply with EN54
(parts 5, 7, and 8). Other parts of the system comply with the appropriate parts of relevant National
Standards, such as BS5839.

(HAWKER CENTRE) PROJECT GLORY

2.3. System Operation

The ZP3 is a complete intelligent fire detection system designed to protect life and property. It will
detect the presence of a fire or smoke, raise local and remote alarms, indicate accurately the location of
the fire, call the fire brigade, and activate building systems to prevent the spread of smoke, gases, and
fire. It can also activate automatic fire extinguishing systems.

The ZP3 system consists of a central panel which is connected to various devices located throughout the
protected building. These devices include fire and smoke sensors, manual callpoints, alarm sounders,
local and remote indicating panels, graphics display computers, led mimic panels, and other devices.
Also connected are interface connections to other building systems, and connections to a fire brigade,
or other remote manned centre.

Sensing devices are grouped into zones, and programmed with text-labels to indicate their location.

The control panel continually checks every fire and smoke sensor, callpoint, and other devices, attached
to the ZP-loop, every 2 seconds. The precision data collected is analysed to indicate the amount of
smoke, heat and combustion products in the proximity of devices. This information is constantly
updated because of the active scanning process by the ZP3 panel. This provides an accurate picture of
the area being monitored by the sensors, enabling intelligent decisions to be made on the presence or
not of fire, smoke, or invisible products-of-combustion.

After making a decision that a fire exists, the ZP3 system initiates an alarm at the control panel, displays
the exact location by means of illuminated LED's and LCD text-display, and illuminates the led on the
initiating sensors or callpoints. It also issues pre-programmed commands to operate area sounders, call
the fire brigade, activate building controls such as air-conditioning shut-down, and other actions. In
addition it commands remote devices to display the location and status of alarms, and to carry out
programmed control functions. Very high power processing capability allows any configuration to be
programmed. In large multi-panel systems, panels communicate with each other, display alarms from
other areas, and carry out commands issued by other panels.

The complete system is actively monitored on a continuous basis. Self-maintenance and diagnostics are
built-in, and all sensors and devices, as well as field wiring, are continuously checked for correct
operation. Any faults found are automatically reported.

Although each system is unique, the basic principles of operation apply, and this manual describes the
ZP3 operating principles. In order to fully understand your particular system, obtain a copy of the
system specification and become familiar with how the system is designed to react in the event of a fire
alarm.

2.5. Panel Fascia

2.5.1. Fascia Layout

The operation of the complete system is done by means of the controls and indicators on the panel
fascia. In some systems, the operator will control the system not from the panel fascia, but from a
Remote Display Unit. This is identical to the control panel, but is usually located in some other area,
such as a control room. It is effectively a "repeater" which operates in the same manner as the fire
panel. The following illustration shows the layout of the ZP3 fascia.

Acclaim Systems Pte Ltd

OPERATION MAINTENANCE MANUAL CONTENTS
(PROJECT GLORY)

2.5.1.1. Common Alarm Indicators

The panel has 4 common alarm indicators, to indicate the presence of an alarm in 4 categories.
The most important of these is the "Fire Alarm" indicator, the others being to draw attention to
alarms of lesser importance. These four indicators are illustrated and described below.

2.5.1.2. Common Fire Indicator

This indicator illuminates when any fire alarm is received by, or is currently present, in the
system. The indicator flashes for a new alarm, and becomes steady after an alarm has been
"accepted". New alarms must be responded to immediately. Other indicators identify the
location of the alarm, and these will be described later. This indicator is normally off.

2.5.1.3. Common Fault Indicator

This indicator illuminates when any fault alarm is received by, or is currently present, in the
system. Other indicators identify the location and type of fault. Some fault alarms might be
important, for example, indicating that a system could be largely out-of-order, others could be of
little significance. How to identify these will be described later. This indicator is normally off.

2.5.1.4. Common Disabled Indicator

This indicator illuminates when any part of the system (for example, a zone, a fire sensor, a
sounder, or a connection to the fire brigade) is deliberately disabled. This might be done for a
number of reasons, for example, to allow part of a building to be renovated, for maintenance, or
to allow people to smoke in a meeting room. Other indicators identify the location of the
disabled devices, these will be described later. This indicator is normally off.

2.5.1.5. Common Info Indicator

This indicator illuminates to identify the presence of any alarm that does not fall into one of the
above groups. This could for example be an alarm that a fire door is unlocked, or that air-
conditioning is shut-down, etc. Other indicators identify the nature of the alarm, and are
described later. This indicator is normally off

Acclaim Systems Pte Ltd

OPERATION MAINTENANCE MANUAL CONTENTS
(HAWKER CENTRE) PROJECT GLORY

2.5.1.6. Zonal Alarm Indicators

In addition to the Common Alarm Indicators, alarms are indicated by means of zonal fire
indicators, and by means of text messages on the LCD text display. The text display also shows
other information.

2.5.1.7. Zonal Fire Indicators

Zonal fire indicators are red, and are located on the left of the fascia. When an alarm is received
from a sensor, the ZONE indicator illuminates to identify which zone has initiated the alarm. This
immediately identifies where the fire is. The zone indicator flashes for a new alarm, and
becomes steady after an alarm has been "accepted". It is possible to view at a glance, the
number of zones which are in an alarm condition, and to identify which are new alarms, and
which have been previously "accepted". Zone indicators are normally off.

2.5.1.8. LCD Text Display

The LCD text display automatically indicates an alarm with a text message which identifies
exactly by description the zone in which the alarm occurred, enabling the operator to accurately
direct efforts to the correct location. The LCD text display shows two alarms simultaneously.
When more than two alarms are present at the same time, they can be scrolled using the
up/down scroll keys. An indicator illuminates to indicate that more alarms exist than are visible
on the screen. The LCD display can be used for other functions, which are described later.

Acclaim Systems Pte Ltd

OPERATION MAINTENANCE MANUAL CONTENTS
(PROJECT GLORY)

2.5.1.9. Alarm View Buttons

Located below the LCD text display, are four "Alarm View" buttons, directly below the four
"Common Alarm" indicators "Fire", "Fault", "Disabled", and "Info". When an alarm is received,
then the relevant Common Indicator illuminates and the zonal details will be immediately
displayed on the LCD text screen. Where more than one type of alarm is present simultaneously,
then the highest priority alarm displays automatically. The priority order is Fire, Fault, Disabled,
Info. To view other categories of alarm, press the relevant button as described below. After
viewing lower-priority alarms using the View Alarm buttons, the system will time-out and
automatically return to the current highest priority alarm.

“View Fire Alarms" Button

Because this is the highest priority, a fire alarm will be automatically displayed, by zone, on
the LCD text screen. The top line will indicate "Fire Alarm", and on the bottom line a
"pointer" will be illuminated directly above the common "Fire" indicator. If you have been
viewing other types of alarm (see below), and wish to return to the fire alarm screen, press
the "Fire" button.
"View Fault Alarms" Button
To view any fault alarms in the system (the "Common Fault" indicator will be illuminated),
press the "Fault" button. The top line will indicate "Fault Alarm", and on the bottom line a
"pointer" will be illuminated above the common "Fault" indicator. The alarm will be
displayed by zone.
"View Disabled" Button

2.5.3. Main Operating Controls

Five controls are used to operate the system, as shown below. The operation of each control is
described.

Accept Button
After receipt of an alarm, pressing the "Accept" button causes the illuminated indicators to go
steady, and silences the panel buzzer. When a fire alarm is accepted the buzzer gives a "chirp" every
30 seconds; when other alarms are accepted, the buzzer remains silent.

Reset Button
Pressing the "Reset" button clears all alarms from the system, and restores the panel to a normal
non-alarm condition. All alarms displayed are removed, and all illuminated indicators are switched
off. Sounders are switched off, and the remote manned centre alarm is restored to a "no-alarm"
condition. If any sensors, callpoints, or other devices are still sensing a fire or smoke, or a fault, then
the panel go back into an alarm condition.

Silence Alarms Button

When an alarm occurs, certain sounders throughout the building will activate. Which sounders and
how many depends upon the configuration of your system. Pressing the "Silence Alarms" button
silences (switches-off) these sounders. When this is done, the "Sounders Silenced" indicator above
the button will illuminate.

Sound Alarms Button

Pressing the "Sound Alarms" button will activate all the sounders in the building. It can be used as a
general alert, or to restore sounders that have been inadvertently silenced.

Restore Disabled Alarms Button

Certain alarm sounders, and the remote manned centre alarm, can be disabled by maintenance
staff, for routine maintenance. If a fire alarm were to occur while these devices were disabled, the
sounders and fire brigade connection would not operate. Pressing the "Restore Disabled Alarms"
button restores disabled sounders and RMC alarms. It also cancels any programmed delays, over-
riding them and creating an immediate alarm. The button does not create an alarm, it merely
restores alarm devices to enable them to operate correctly during an alarm.

i.e. zones, devices, sounders, control outputs, remote manned
center alarm.

Types of Disablement
Disablement of the system fall into two main categories:
Devices: These are input devices such as zones, sensors, manual
callpoints, etc. Provided the number of devices is sufficiently
small, and the relevant staff is aware of the situation and
keeping it under control, this situation is usually considered
acceptable.
Sounders and RMC: Disabling of sounders or the remote manned centre alarms is
considered very serious, and some authorities do not approve
of this practice. If sounders are disabled for any reason, they
must be re-enabled as soon as possible.

Operator Action
To view disabled zones press the "Disabled" button. The screen will show disabled or partly-disabled
zones; scroll with the up/down "more" buttons to view all. Status LED indicators will indicate the

2.9. Operator Maintenance

2.9.1. Introduction
The owner of a fire detection system is responsible for ensuring that it is correctly maintained so
that it is in a proper working condition at all times. This will involve arranging for the system to be
checked, tested and serviced as described in this manual.
The maintenance procedures described are Ziton recommendations. There may be additional
requirements or regulations imposed by local authorities. When there is a conflict, then the local
authority regulation should be followed.

Regular procedures
The recommended maintenance procedures can be divided into the following categories:

 Daily checks
 Weekly checks
 Quarterly services
 Annual services

The daily and weekly checks require no technical knowledge and can often be carried out by the
panel operator, or in-house maintenance staff. It is important for the person carrying out the testing
to be aware of which building functions or remote alarms will be activated by the system when an
alarm occurs.

The quarterly and annual services should be carried out by an authorized Ziton servicing company,
usually under maintenance contract. These services are not the responsibility of the operator or in-
house maintenance technician, and are not covered in this section of the manual.

Repair of Faults
The system operator and in-house maintenance personnel should have the telephone number of the
outside company contracted for maintenance, so that they can call them if a major fault develops
which is beyond the capability of the in-house people.

Record Keeping
The operator should maintain a log book at the control panel, into which a record of all alarms,
events, checks, tests, and repairs are entered.

Acclaim Systems Pte Ltd

OPERATION MAINTENANCE MANUAL CONTENTS
(PROJECT GLORY)

2.9.2. Operator Maintenance

Routine Checks
The following are the details of the daily and weekly checks that must be carried out to ensure that
the system is operational at all times.

Important
Occupants of the building and anyone receiving remote alarm signals, such as the fire department,
should be informed prior to the test. They must also be informed when the test is complete. No
alarms should be activated before notification has taken place. Any external systems that are
connected to the fire system, such as fire extinguishing systems, air-conditioning systems, or lifts,
should be temporarily disabled while testing is in progress. It is essential that all disconnected or
disabled systems be reconnected at the end of testing.

Daily checks
Check that only the Green Power-on indicator is illuminated. All other LED's should be off and the
panel should be silent. The display should show the time and date only.
If the panel is indicating a fault alarm, contact the maintenance staff and arrange for the fault to be
rectified.
Maintain the logbook up-to-date. Check that all faults recorded in the log book the previous day
have been attended to.
Check that the correct time and date are displayed. If not, then correct the time/date.

Weekly Checks
Check that all LED’ s are operational by carrying out a lamp-test.
Operate at least one device (fire sensor or callpoint) in a zone. The zones should be rotated to
ensure that they will all be tested over time.
Check that the required sounders operate.
If the system is connected to a remote manned centre, check the alarm was received.
If the fire system controls the operation of auxiliary equipment, check that this did occur.
Accept the alarm, and press the “Silence Alarms” button. Check that the sounders silence.
Reset the system.
If the panel has a printer, check that it recorded the events correctly. Check that it has sufficient
paper, and that the print ribbon is not dry. Verify that the paper feeds correctly.
Make sure that the panel exterior is clean by lightly polishing with a dry cloth.

Important: If any defects are discovered during the routine testing, they should be recorded in the
log book and action taken to have them corrected.

‘KIDDE’ WDHR Wet Chemical
Extinguishing System

-OPERATION MANUAL-
O&M - KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System Pg 1 of 4

1. GENERAL

The KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System is designed and has been tested to
provide fire protection for commercial cooking operations covering the hood, ducts, plenum and
appliances. KIDDE WHDR Systems are a pre-engineered type as defined in NFPA 17A –
Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems.

The KIDDE WHDR Series is a listed pre-engineered fire extinguishing system. The WHDR
system is listed with Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. – USA per UL 300 fire test specification;
Underwriters Laboratories of Canada, Inc. per ULC/ORD 1254.6 – 1995 and Loss Prevention
Certification Board – UK per LPS 1223 rev. B.

The KIDDE WHDR Series Pre-Engineered System consists of mechanical and electrical
components. The system is composed of an agent cylinder/discharge valve charged with APC
Agent and a KRS-50 Control Box. The KIDDE WHDR system uses a liquid chemical called
Potassium Acetate Carbonate (APC) as its agent. APC, a solution of potassium carbonate in
water, suppresses fires through a process involving the followings:
• Saponification of surface grease (turning it into combustion-resistant soup),
• Cooling effects of water vaporization,
• Inerting effects of resultant steam formation, and
• Interruption of the chemical chain reaction of combustion.

4) Fusible Link : A fixed temperature heat detection device used to restraint

the operation of the mechanical release module until the
detectors designed temperature is reached. At its
designated temperature, the fusible link will separate,
releasing tension in the cable, causing the system to
discharge

5) Discharge : The device used to deliver a specific quantity, flow and Nozzles
discharge pattern of fire suppression agent to a specific
appliance, duct size or plenum size
O&M - KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System Pg 3 of 4

3. OPERATION
The KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System operates either automatically if
actuated by a detector or manually if actuated by a manual pull station.

The KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System suppresses fire in commercial cooking
equipment by spraying APC liquid agent in a predetermined manner onto the cooking
appliances and into exhaust ducts, filters and plenum areas. The primary means of fire
suppression is either by saponification of surface grease or by cooling the surface of oils and
hot metal surfaces with fine droplets of agent, reducing the temperature of the oil and appliance
below the auto-ignition point.

IN CASE OF FIRE
Assessing the fire situation, if the breakout of the fire size is small and be able to be
suppressed, extinguish the fire by means of a portable fire extinguisher.

Else, by automatic means, the fusible link shall separate; release the tension in the cable upon
reaching its designed temperature to cause the KIDDE WHDR series Automatic Wet Chemical
Extinguishing System to discharge.

For a manual discharge, proceed to activate the remote manual pull station by
1) Break off the safety tag,
2) Pull away the smaller ring pin
3) Pull out the bigger ring lever to manually discharge the APC liquid agent.

DO NOT GO CLOSE to the cooking area upon discharge of the APC liquid agent. Exit the
kitchen upon activation of the KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System.
O&M - KIDDE WHDR Wet Chemical Extinguishing System Pg 4 of 4
