Tangent and Circle

This document defines key terms and concepts related to circles and their geometry, including chords, diameters, circumscribed and inscribed circles, arcs, segments, sectors, tangents, angles, and relationships between angles, chords, radii, and tangents. Key properties outlined are that a diameter is the longest chord, a circumscribed circle passes through polygon vertices while an inscribed circle touches polygon sides, arcs and segments are defined by chords, a sector is bounded by an arc and radii, tangents intersect a circle at only one point and are perpendicular to radii.

Any line joining the opposite ends of the circumference is a chord

Diameter is the longest chord

The circumscribe circle is a circle that passes through all the vertices of a
polygon
Inscribe circle is a circle that touches all the sides of a polygon
The centre of circumscribe circle is called circumcentre
The centre of inscribe circle is called incentre
Arc is a part of the circumference of a circle
If you draw a chord in a circle it divides the circumference into 2 parts such that
the smaller one is called the minor arc and the bigger one is called the major arc
If a chord divides a circle into 2 unequal parts the smaller part is called minor
segment and the bigger part is called major segment
A sector is a region bounded by an arc and 2 radii joining the centre to the end
points of the arc
A straight line drawn from the centre of the circle to bisect a chord which is not
a diameter is at a right angle to the chord
Equal chords of a circle are equidistant from the centre
If 2 arcs of the same circle subtend equal angles at the centre they arc size is
equal. Converse is also true
In any circle angle made on the diameter is always 90 degrees
Tangent to a circle is a line that intersects the circle at only one point or only
one tangent can pass through a point on the circle
The tangent at any point of the circle is perpendicular to the radius through the
point of contact
The length of tangents drawn from an external point to the circle are equal
Angle at the centre is twice the angle at the circumference
Angles in the same segment are equal
Angles in opposite segments are supplemantary
Angle between tangent and radius of the circle is a right angle
