Step 1 – Course Recognition

Start by browsing the whole course to be aware of the particular features it has
regarding any other course from the BA program. Be sure to check the News forum
and the course internal mail every time you get in English VII: English Conversation
course. Your student institutional email ([email protected]) must be
working as well because you will get updates from the course director through these
means.

Check the course presentation, agenda, rules and conditions, syllabus, contents, and
activity guides, and evaluation rubrics in the Learning environment. Then, introduce
yourself in the forum and answer the following questions:

1. What is the purpose of the course?

2. How many learning outcomes can you find in the syllabus?
3. What are synchronic interaction activities? (Definition)
4. How many activities does the course have?

1
5. Which activities in the course imply real-time interaction? (Identify only that
type of activity: synchronic interaction).
6. Summarize with your own words the course rules and conditions
7. Is your institutional email working properly?

Special Notice: If your institutional email is not working, use the following
manual to restore the password:
https://informacion.unad.edu.co/images/Manual_Usuario_Office365_Estudiantes.pdf
If even so, you do not have access to your institutional email, send a message
to [email protected], including your ID in the message, and ask
them to restore your student email.

following reference:

In Achieving Success in Second Language Acquisition (pp. 3-37). Cambridge:
Cambridge University Press.

Then, share in the forum a reflection that includes the following aspects:

1. Have you got an English language level certification? If not, what do you
consider your level to be at present?
2. How did you get to the level you have now?
3. Why are you studying English as a foreign language?
4. How is studying a language as an adult different from studying it as a child?
5. How long should you study a foreign language?
6. How can you make language learning a part of your life in the future?
7. How can you organize lifelong language learning?

Step 3 – Shoot a video

Record a video presenting the answers to the questions from Step 1 and your
reflections from Step 2. Start the video with your self-introduction. You can use slides
as a support to your video if you wish, but it is mandatory for you to be on camera.
Be sure your video has a high-quality sound and that it lasts at least four minutes.
Share the public link to your video in the forum.

public link to your video, your self-introduction, the answers from Step 1, the
reflections from Step 2, and references.

the course internal mail and institutional email regarding the subscription, material,
and weekly mandatory participation in Task 2. According to your subscription, you
will be meeting once a week for seven weeks with the same group of students to
discuss different topics. Every Friday or Saturday, you will get from the course
director a message with the material to prepare for the meeting of the following
week. The material can be an article, a file, or a video. The idea is that you prepare
the topic beforehand so that you can have an excellent performance during the
discussion in the corresponding session. Task 2 is going to be the first
synchronic activity of the course.

SPECIAL NOTICE ABOUT FUTURE SYNCHRONIC ACTIVITIES:

Be sure to keep an eye out for the subscriptions for TASK 3, TASK 4, and TASK 6. As
soon as the course director sends you the information to book your spot for each of
those activities, you will need to subscribe to them promptly. Do not wait until the
deadline to subscribe, or else you will miss your chance to participate, which may
bring as a consequence the failure of the course.

- Check the course agenda to be aware of the synchronic activities this course
implies.
