Chapter 1 Overview
1.1 Equipment Description
Sludge vacuum pump is a type of high load and strong suction capacity vacuum transferring pump,
it is also called solids transferring pump or cuttings transfer pump. The unique structure design
enables it work in the very tough circumstance with less maintenance. It is ideal equipment for
transferring sludge with high solid content up to 80% and high specific gravity material. Vacuum
pump has below features: high efficiency Venturi device can produce a vacuum up to 10 meters
water column for material suction under high air flow circumstance. It is designed with compact
structure, almost no wearing parts, for high density material transferring like cuttings and oily
sludge etc.
1.2 Structure and Working Principle
1.2.1 Structure
1.2.1.0 Complete machine
Complete machine(See fig.1.0,details see Form 1.0)adopts vertical structure, small footprint,
Vacuum for suction and positive pressure for discharge. It mainly consists of tank & pedestal
combination, vacuum tube combination, air discharge manifold, sludge suction manifold, sludge
discharge manifold, pneumatic control cabinet.

Notes:

1. The reference length of the inlet hose of SP10 vacuum pump is 15m. When the inlet pipe does

not have too many bends, the theory of 15-35m or less than 100m does not consider the pressure

drop loss. When the inlet pipe exceeds 100m, the pressure drop loss will be considered. Please

confirm with GN company;

2. When hooking up inlet hose (see Fig. 1.6), item 6 and 7 need to be taken out first, and put them

on the connector shown in Fig 1.6.1. You can also head press hose onto item 7 to make reliable
connection. For connection of the other end to air compressor or buffer air tank, you need to

prepare the connection as per the type of connectors on the compressor on tank.

Note: When the fluidity of the material is good and the solid content is low, the check valve is used as the slurry

inlet.

When the fluidity of the material is poor and the solid content is high and there are large particles, the double

screw port hoop is used as the slurry inlet (Please find details Inlet pressure 4.1.3).

1.2.1.4.1、Slurry Inlet Hose (Optional)

Technical requirement:
1. The quick connector is provided by manufacturer; ensure that both ends of the hose
can be installed with the quick connector;
2. The internal circulation of the hose may be many different materials such as gravel,
oil-water mixture, industrial wastewater, etc. .;
3. The hose is required to have good wear resistance and bear a negative pressure of
85Kpa.

Note: The length of the slurry hose is to be determined as per field application. Its length can
be 500 to 1000 meters. However the hose must be properly fixed. It is absolutely forbidden to
manually hold the hose, it is very dangerous. Discharge pressure can be 0.8 MPa; it can lead
to personal injury. The hose has to be rigid as well. General purpose hose is not suitable for
such application.

1.2.2.1 Material Suction


High pressure and high speed air gets into the jet air tube assembly via inlet (high vacuum is
produced by the air pocket in the jet air tube assembly) producing high vacuum in the tank for
material suction.

1)Yellow arrow is compressed air flow direction; Red arrow is air flow direction inner tank; Purple
arrow is material entering direction.
2)Air enters into the distribution pocket via inlet, vacuum produced in the air distribution pocket.
(when restricted flow passes the contractible cross section, flow speed will increase. Flow speed is
inversely proportional to the cross section, the increasing of speed will go with reducing of fluid
pressure. Low pressure will be produced near high speed fluids, then produce suction action);
3)When low pressure produced at the air pocket, the air in the tank flows towards the air pocket and
gets out together with compressed air, and then vacuum produced in the tank.
4)When pressure inner tank is lower than ambient pressure, material will gets into the tank under
atmospheric pressure.(6-9 meters for water suction height, delivery distance is different due to
material density and viscosity).

1) After suction process, compressed air flow direction changes and gets into the material storage
tank, as above picture showing. Pressure inside tank will be higher and higher, finally the material
is discharged out under high pressure and flows to distance with compressed air.(Max. horizontal
distance 500-1000 meters,delivery distance is different due to material density and viscosity);

Chapter 2- safety operation regulation


2.1 Safety regulations
The equipment instructions must be read carefully before operation, the user should have sufficient

knowledge of the installation, operation and maintenance.

The user must wear protective glasses, labor gloves, labor shoes and other special labor protection

products during installation, operation and maintenance.

2.2 Operation regulations


1. Equipment should be equipped with professionals for operation or

maintenance;

2. Check the valve, cylinder movements are flexible regularly;

3. If the equipment is found abnormal during inspection process, it

should be stopped in time;

4. Equipment must be washed with clean water after each stop;


5. Regular cleaning, once a year, flush the container with a high-pressure gun through the cleaning
port; as shown on the right.
6. Each month, check wearness of pressure tank; Do pressure tank pressure test (pressure test
pressure is 1MPa), if the tank cannot bear the pressure, the user should replace with new pressure
tank immediately.

Chapter 3- Installation and commissioning

3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Basic requirement of installation

3.1.1.1 Site requirements

There should be enough space for the

lifting and installation of vacuum pump

parts; (refer to the vacuum pump outline,

mounting and interface dimensions on the

right) the remaining space can be used for

repair and maintenance.

3.1.1.2 Installation infrastructure requirements


If the vacuum pump will be used on the tank surface, its dimension must meet the boundary
dimension (right figure), and the surrounding space is enough, and the tank surface is solid and
reliable.
3.1.1.3 Lifting device requirement

Crane or sling bears at least 1.5Ton

3.1.1.4 Requirement for operator

Operators of lifting equipment must be professional

and qualified.

3.2 Commissioning

Chapter 4 Operation Attentions and Steps

4.1 Operation Attentions


4.1.1 Preparation work prior turn on the machine
1. For the initial use or re-set of the machine, prior use the machine, operator need to follow
Chapter 3 "Install and Adjust" requirements to install and adjust machine properly.
2. Routine operation steps of the machine:
a) Check machine's pipes and lines are still intact;
b) Check cylinder and all valves are operation as it should be;
3. Before use, it must be ensured that the inlet and outlet rubber pipes are firmly fixed to avoid
personal injury.
4.1.2 Machine Rinsing
1 Machine should rise by clear water after every use to prevent large amount of solids particles
attached inside the tank wall.
2 Water raising instruction:
A. Insert feeding pipe into clear water and turn on machine as normal operation (loading and
unloading), in normal condition, water rinsing in five operation cycles will clean it complete. (It
depends on the material that may need increase/decrease operation cycles)
B. Or use a high-pressure gun to clean the container through the cleaning port;
4.1.3 Inlet pressure

4.2 Operation steps
4.2.1 Automatic start
1. Turn the "switching valve" to the "ON" position to turn on the air supply;
2. The device is in automatic mode, so that an discharge cycle can be performed immediately. And
the device has started normal operation.
In order to ensure that the material in the tank is emptied, do not put the suction port into the
material within 2 minutes when starting up; (the factory experience setting value is loaded for 10s
and unloaded for 10s, and the customer can adjust according to the site conditions);3. Two minutes
later, put the suction port in the material to be sucked and keep the pump working continuously.
When the tank is full, it can be identified by sound; or when the tank is full, the suction port stops
sucking the material;
4. Let the pump circulate several times, and then adjust the cycle time according to the situation,
(0~30s), after confirmation, the sludge vacuum pump can operate normally
5. Check whether the discharge pipeline is properly arranged (the discharge pipeline needs to be
fixed firmly and must have certain rigidity);
6. When turning off the pump, let the pump run for a few turns to empty the tank (take the suction
port out of the material pile);
7. This type of sludge vacuum pump is in automatic operation state. People can leave the pump and the pump can
run dry without damage;
8. When machine operate in normal condition; Air control panel pressure gauge will show 0.8Mpa
and not go any higher. Once machine is on, the pressure might decrease (Because the air
consumption of this equipment is large, it may be caused by the air supply volume not keeping up
of the air compressor) but the pressure can-not lower than 0.5Mpa. Pressure of lower than 0.5Mpa
will affect machinery performance (suction height and handling capacity); Pressure lower than
0.35Mpa will not be functional for operation.

4.2.2 Automatic stop

1. Take out the suction port and allow the pump to circulate 3 times until no material is discharged

from the discharge port. You can increase the number of cycles to empty the material in the tank.
2. The "switching valve" switched to the "OFF” position then the device stops normally;

3. When the person wants to leave, close the general balloon valve;

Chapter 5 Check and Maintenance

5.1 Maintenance for equipment main body


Maintenance is the key segment to guarantee the vacuum pump running properly. It should be

frequently to check and maintain the vacuum pump according to the instruction book. This is the

main measure to reduce the downtime of the vacuum pump and keep the equipment running

properly all the time.

5.1.1 Points for maintenance

5.1.1.1Requirement for maintenance staff

5.1.1.1.1 Should designate the technician who was trained with the vacuum pump technology to
operate, manage and maintain the vacuum pump.

5.1.1.1.2 It’s only allowed for the designated and trained staff to operate and maintain the vacuum

pump, and operate the equipment properly, strictly according to the operation use and maintenance

procedure’s requirement

5.1.1.2 Purpose of maintenance

5.1.1.2.1 Vacuum should be periodically checked, maintained and serviced to guarantee the function

and key parts and safeguard procedure of the vacuum pump under normal condition. And guarantee

the vacuum pump working under good condition, and the guarantee the mechanical property and

technical characteristic of the vacuum pump. Prolong the equipment longevity and lower the usage

cost.
5.1.1.3Maintenance method

5.1.1.3.1 Carry out major maintenance once every three months, check the use of the tank body,

slurry inlet and suction tube combination, and discharge tube combination. If the damage is serious,

replace it immediately

5.1.1.3.2 Whether the fasteners around the equipment are fastened once a month (600 hours).

5.1.1.3.3 Check the cylinder gate valve once a month (600 hours), whether the action is flexible,

whether there is air leakage, water leakage, and repair if there is a color or air leak; Add grease to
the surface;

Chapter 6 Trouble Shooting


6.1 Equipment troubleshooting
1. Take out the suction port from the inhaled material, suck and exhaust air, and set the loading and

unloading delayer to 10s (Figure 4.2.1.1);

2. Check that all air pipes, control valves and pneumatic valves have not fallen off;
3. Connect the air supply to the equipment, make the switch on (Figure 4.2.1.1), and open the air supply;

3.1 Check whether the connecting air pipe is leaking;

3.2 Discharge route check

Switch on the pump. The feed gate valve is closed, and the pump is ready to discharge. Check the

state of all the valves A and B(Figure 6.1.3.2)

3.3.1 The incorrect operation of the travel switch will cause the next path to fail to work. Strictly
check here;
3.3.2 The travel switch may be loose during transportation, which may cause the next path to fail to
work properly and the equipment to operate normally;
3.3.3 Vibration during use may cause the travel switch to become loose, causing the next path to fail
to work properly and the equipment to operate normally;
3.3.4 The feed gate valve may jam the material during use, resulting in that the screw and the travel
switch cannot be completely closed, and the equipment cannot operate normally;
3.3.5 Loosen the fixing bolt of the travel switch, and slightly move the travel switch to allow the
travel switch to complete the closing and be in normal work. Tighten the fixing bolt;
3.3.6 If the position switch still cannot be fully closed after 3.3.5 Operation, there is a problem 3.3.4.
Disassemble the feed gate valve and remove the sundries.

3.4.1 Check the status of all valves as shown in Figure 6.1.3.4


3.4.2 Check that the pressure in the entire process of the control cabinet is not less than 0.5Mpa and
not more than 0.8Mpa;
3.4.3 B1’s Open State Check and Repair (feeding state)

please increase the gas source pressure;
b. If B1 is opened with no action, please pull out the B1intake pipe, and check if there is gas passing.

Please perform 3.4.3 c operation to repair or replace the switch valve if switch valve black 7 has no

gas passing and black A has gas passing;


c、Five-way valve (including unloading five-way valve, loading five-way valve, 开关切换阀, and
automatic control valve five-way valve) are generally not damaged. If this valve does not work
properly, it may be caused by the gas being not clean enough to cause stagnation. , Then perform
the following operations; take the unloading of the five-way valve as an example, the rest of the
valve repair also perform the following operations.
⚫ Record all inlets and outlets of the unloading five-way valve (Figure on the right)

⚫ Pull out all the inlet and outlet air pipes of the unloading five-way valve

⚫ Blow 2 turns clockwise for each port of the unloading five-way valve

⚫ Blow 2 turns against each port of the unloading five-way valve

⚫ Blow 2 turns of each port of the unloading five-way valve in sequence

⚫ The blow time of each mouth is about 10s

⚫ Return all the inlets and outlets of the unloaded five-way valve according to the records, and

the repair is completed

3.4.5 B1 Valve Check and Repair (discharging status)

a. If B1 is closed with no action, please pull out the B1intake pipe, and check if there is gas passing.

If there is gas passing, then there is damage to this valve, and replace the valve. If no gas passes,

then

⚫ Check whether the black 3 and Ф8(blue F) of the discharging five-way valve (Fig .6.1.3.4.3. C)

have gas passing through;

⚫ If the discharging five-way valve black 3 has gas passing through and Ф8(blue f) does not, do

3.4.3 c operation to repair;

⚫ If the discharging five-way valve black 3 has no gas passing through, check whether there is

gas passing through in the switch valve black 7.

⚫ If the black 7 of the switch valve has no gas passing through, do 3.4.3 c operation to repair or

replace this valve;

3.4.6 In the whole inspection process, if a certain section of the inspection does not pass, please

perform a certain section of inspection;

• Make sure the limit switch works normally;

• Logic modules generally do not cause problems, but they are not excluded. You can also check
logic modules;

• Sometimes it is necessary to exclude that the small filter gas passes normally, and clogging of
the small filter will also cause the pressure gauge to show that the pressure is lower than the actual

working pressure or no pressure;

3.5、Automatic start path check (Figure 4.2.1)

1. The type and size of the welded joints are as specified in HG / T205832011. The type A / B

welds are DU4. The welds used for takeover and simplified use G2. For the thickness of thinner

plates, the welding of flanges shall be in accordance with the provisions of the corresponding

flange standards, and the weld shall be smoothly transitioned.

2. This air storage tank is suitable for systems with air compressor flow less than 2800kg / h.
