CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of study

Waste is one of the issues of concern at SMKN I Parittiga. Waste is
an inseparable part of human life, because basically all humans produce
waste. Waste that is disposed of into the environment will cause
problems for life and environmental health, especially human life. This
problem has become a hot issue and has received a lot of attention
because it requires serious handling.
Plastic waste in schools is a type of waste that generally consists of
plastic products used by students, staff and school canteens. Attention to
the problem of plastic waste in schools is very important because plastic
waste that is not managed properly can pollute the school environment.
The use of plastic waste in schools can have a significant impact on the
environment.
The use of plastic waste can pollute soil, groundwater, and
underground creatures. Toxins from plastic particles enter the soil and
can kill animals or decomposing bacteria in the soil. Plastic blocks the
path of water seeping into the soil, reducing the fertility of the soil.
because it blocks the circulation of air in the soil and the movement of
living things, and plays a role in soil fertilization. and plays a role in soil
fertilization. Plastic waste is a serious threat to the long-term
sustainability of the environment.
Waste in the school environment can be divided into two, namely
organic waste and inorganic waste. Organic waste in schools is a type of
waste that comes from organic materials, such as food waste, leaves,
used paper, and others that can decompose or decompose naturally.
Organic waste in schools usually comes from canteens, food scraps in
classrooms, or school gardens that produce dry leaves.

1
With the right educational approach, organic waste management in
schools can be a good example for students in caring for the environment
and reducing the negative impact of waste on our earth.
Inorganic or non-organic waste in the school environment is a type of
waste that cannot be decomposed naturally by natural processes because
it is made of non-organic or inorganic materials, one of which is plastic
waste.
Plastic waste is one of the most common types of inorganic waste in
the school environment. It includes plastic bottles, food containers,
plastic bags, and other plastic items. Plastic takes a very long time to
decompose and can pollute the environment if not managed properly.
With the right actions, the school environment can play an important
role in reducing the impact of inorganic waste and supporting
environmental sustainability.

CHAPTER II
THEORY

2.1 Definition of study

Waste is an integral part of our daily lives. Every human activity
generates waste, and the way we manage this waste has a huge impact on
the environment, public health and sustainability.
Waste is leftover materials or items that are no longer used and are
considered to have no significant economic value or benefit to the owner.
Waste can be a variety of materials, including organic materials such as food
waste, inorganic materials such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, as well as
various types of hazardous waste such as batteries, toxic chemicals, and so
on. Waste is also often referred to as "waste" or "scraps" and can appear in
various forms, ranging from solid to liquid.

2.2 Types of Garbage

Based on the origin or source, waste can be classified into two namely as
follows:
1. Organic waste is waste produced from biological materials that can be
degraded by microbes or are biodegradable. This rubbish with can easily be
broken down through natural processes. Household waste is mostly organic
material. This includes organic waste, for example kitchen waste, food
scraps, packaging (other than paper, rubber, and plastic), flour, vegetables,
fruit peels, leaves and twings. Apart from that, traditional markets also
donate lot of organic waste such as vegetable waste, fruit and so on.
2. Non organic or inorganic waste is waste produced from non-biological
materials, either in the from of synthetic products or the results of
technological processes for processing mining materials. Inorganic waste
is divided into metal waste and its processed product, plastic waste, paper
waste, glass and ceramic waste detergent waste. The negative impact of

3
large piles of solid waste that cannot be decomposed for a long time will
pollute the land.
What is categorized as waste here is material that is no longer used (refuse)
because the main parts have been taken out by processing them into parts
that are not liked and are economically worthless.

2.3 Definition SMKN I Parittiga

SMKN I Parittiga is a vocational high school. Located in sekar biru
village, tambang kering. This school was in 2008 with the main aim of
providing quality vocational education to students in this area, with a focus
on the field of TKJ (computer and networking engineering).
At SMKN I Parittiga there four majors, namely the computer
networking engineering major (TKJ), the visual communication design
major (DKV), the electrical power installation engineering major (TITL),
and the motorbike business engineering major (TBSM).
There are approximately 900 students at SMKN 1 Parittiga. In class
X there are 324 students. In class XI there are 354 students and there are
254 students in class XII with is classrooms. The number of students at
SMKN 1 Parittiga is 932.
The establishment of SMKN 1 Parittiga to continue education to a
higher level. As time goes by, SMKN 1 Parittiga has experienced rapid
development, currently the number of rooms consists of 26 classes, 5 lab
rooms and many other rooms which are being renovated.

CHAPTER III
DISCUSSION

3.1 ‘Why do students have lack awareness of throwing rubbish in

the right place?’
Problem Analysis:
The combination of theoretical foundations and survey results
highlights several issue with Analyzing plastic waste processing at
SMKN 1 Parittiga:
Students lack the awareness to dispose of rubbish in its place due to
several factors. Firstly, the lack of education and understanding of the
importance of keeping the environment clean. Second, the lack of
adequate rubbish bin facilities in the school environment or public
places. Third, the lack of supervision and strict sanctions against
littering offences.
To increase students' awareness of littering, several efforts need to
be made. First, provide education and socialisation about the importance
of maintaining environmental cleanliness and the adverse effects of
littering. Second, providing adequate and easily accessible waste bin
facilities in the school environment or public places. Third, increase
supervision and provide strict sanctions for littering offences.
With these efforts, it is hoped that students' awareness of littering
can increase so that the environment becomes cleaner and healthier.

5
Conclusion:
Littering in the school environment can cause major negative
impacts such as unpleasant odors, the spread of disease, and damage to
the environment and ecosystem. Therefore, we must dispose of rubbish
in the available rubbish bins. We can also help by sorting waste so that
it can be recycled. By keeping the school environment clean, we build
awareness and responbility in maintaining a healthy environment.

3.2 ‘How do we do processing of plastic waste at SMKN 1

Parittiga?’
1. Processing plastic waste at school can be done in several ways.
Firstly, students can sort plastic waste from other types of waste such
as paper, metal, and organic. After that, plastic waste can be
processed into recycled materials by processing through plastic
shredding machines or plastic recycling machines.
2. Secondly, plastic waste can be used as handicraft materials such as
bags, pencil cases, and wall hangings. Students can learn to make
handicrafts from plastic waste with the guidance of teachers or
people who are experts in the field.
3. Third, schools can collaborate with third parties who have recycling
facilities to collect plastic waste that has been sorted by students.
The plastic waste is then processed into recycled materials that can
be reused.

6
Conclusion:
By processing plastic waste at school, students can learn about the
importance of recycling and protecting the environment. In addition,
processing plastic waste can also reduce the amount of waste disposed
of in landfills and reduce the negative impact of plastic waste on
the environment.

CHAPTER IV
CLOSING

4.1 Conclusion
In conclusion, the survey conducted on the parking area at SMKN 1
Parittiga has shed light on several critical issues that require immediate attention.
The persistent problems of water puddles, uncleanliness, insufficiency, and the
resulting discomfort experienced by students, staff, and visitors cannot be
overlooked.
The survey results indicate that there is a pressing need for comprehensive
improvements in the management and infrastructure of the parking area. Water
puddles pose safety hazards and infrastructure damage, while the unclean and
insufficient parking area leads to discomfort, congestion, and a negative image for
the school.
To address these challenges, it is essential to implement a multifaceted
approach that encompasses immediate maintenance, safety enhancements, capacity
expansion, traffic flow management, and community involvement. This should be
complemented by ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness, promote safety
education, allocate sufficient budgeting, and plan for long-term sustainability.
Moreover, the collaboration of the school community, including students,
staff, parents, and local authorities, is vital in ensuring the successful
implementation of these recommendations. By working together and prioritizing
the enhancement of the parking area, SMKN 1 Parittiga can create a safer, more
efficient, and welcoming environment for all, ultimately contributing to the
betterment of the school as a whole.

8
4.2 Suggestion
1. It is hoped that students, teachers and state high school officials will
do it 1 Sutera parents and the community to play a more active role
in maintain the cleanliness of the school environment The school
environment looks clean in some way littering, lots of students.

2. it is hoped that students will have motivation within themselves to

maintain the cleanliness of the school environment motivation and
lack of self-awareness, it will create lack of atmosphere or comfort
in the school environment This is because there is still a lot of
rubbish lying around.

3. It is hoped that residents, schools, parents and students will do it to

care and work together to maintain cleanliness school environment.
