Project Proposal

This document provides a template and guidance for a student's final major project proposal for an extended diploma in creative media production and technology. The proposal should include three sections: (1) a 100-word rationale reflecting on skills and knowledge gained from prior course units and how this influenced project choice, (2) a 200-word description of the project concept including aims, ideas, resources needed and presentation format, and (3) a 50-word evaluation plan. Additionally, a project action plan, timetable and bibliography (using Harvard referencing style) are required but not included in the 350-word limit. The proposal aims to demonstrate the student can meet grading criteria for the final project unit.

presented under the headings listed here: (Approximately 50 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain

how you will reflect on and evaluate your work, as both
an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of the
project.

You should describe how you intend to record

your decision-making and how you will document
changes to your ideas as the project
progresses. The evaluation section should
reference your stated aims and
be reflective and analytical rather than a
description of actions completed.

When working in collaboration with others, you

should comment on how this may impact
either positively or adversely and outline the
steps you can take to minimise disruption to your own
progress.

Project action plan and timetable:

This section provides you with an opportunity to

outline your planning and organisation over a
period of weeks and the activities you will need to
carry out in order to successfully complete
your project in the agreed time frame. The more
time and thought you give to
planning your project, the more successful it is
likely to be.

It is important that you consider how you will

balance ambition, time and realism in the
realisation of the project. You should also include
what you are going to do, how you will do it
and by when. Remember to include: time spent
sourcing materials and other resources to conduct
research, feedback from tutors and peers, and
when you will carry out independent study.

Bibliography (Harvard Format):

This section provides an opportunity to record the

initial research sources, both primary and
secondary, that you intend to use.

Your sources of research should be as wide

as possible and could include libraries,
galleries, books, magazines, films, computer games,
websites, blogs, social media, radio
programmes, archive material etc. Where
appropriate, you should use the Harvard
system of referencing. The bibliography should be
continuously updated as the
project progresses.

Project Title Final Major Project

Section 1: Rationale
Over the previous units on this 2-year course, I think I’ve improved massively and learnt a bunch of
(approx. 100 words)
new skills that I hadn’t known before. I feel that my work is improving overall, and I can see this
progress when I look back through my Weebly sites. I have learnt multiple useful skills such as how to
find good quality/ not pixelated images from Google Images or to find free stock images on sites like
Pexels. I have learnt to use multiple software like Adobe photoshop, Adobe illustrator, Adobe InDesign
and Canva. This course has helped me realize that I specialize in design, layouts and photo editing. My
long-term plans are to get experience in the design to help build my own community/ network that will
allow me to get freelance work (extra cash) while I’m travelling. Some ways of getting into the industry
that I’m looking into are apprenticeships or university, so to prepare and get the best chances of this I
aim to do well in this project.

Section 2: Project
My “Final Major Project (FMP)” idea is to set myself up to be able to do freelancing after college. This
Concept
(approx. 200 words)
will include researching how to gain clients, what helps to reassure a client/ make a client trust a
designer to do a project, how I can implement those reassuring tactics for my own work, how to charge
for my work, how others have set themselves up, contact some freelance creatives to ask them for
advice/ tips on invoices and promotion about their journey. I decided for this project to aim to set
myself up as a freelancer because it will be extremely beneficial for me and currently, I don’t have the
skills or knowledge to become one yet. I think my target audience will be anyone who is interested in
paying for my services/ work such as businesses or art lovers, but I will need to think who my target
audience is more. I will reach them through social media so I will need to build a social media presence
(by making accounts, posting my work/ skills and creating promotion ad posts). I also plan to build trust
with my audience by letting them know more about me, so I’ll do this with a personal brand, logo, icon,
website.

Unit 13 Project Proposal
Section 3: Evaluation I will evaluate my progress throughout this project with teacher 1-1s, peer feedback, weekly reflections,
(approx. 50 words)
checklists and a few focus groups with a variety of people like my friends, classmates, family members
or the public. I will evaluate whether my final outcomes are successful at the end of the project by
analyzing if I have gained any clients and new skills for freelancing.
