Final Performance Task in General Physics 1

The document discusses improving classroom acoustics through sound absorption design. It proposes using mineral fiber ceilings and soundblocker tiles to reduce noise and reverberation. This would help create a better learning environment for students by making it easier to hear lessons clearly. The design aims to address the problems of excessive background noise interfering with teaching and learning.

INTRODUCTION

Learning and education are dependent on several factors, including the physical and social
environment of the classroom, teacher and student motivation for teaching and learning. As a
result, the learning environment has a significant impact on students' learning outcomes. Noise is
one of the variables that could be confusing variables distracting students in class.

Noise is defined as sounds that interfere with a person's ability to hear what they want or
need to hear. External noise, internal noise, and room noise are all potential sources of
background noise in the classroom. Noise has a negative impact on the academic environment
and student learning behavior. Memory, reading, motivation, and attention are all affected by
noise. Poor classroom acoustics are increasingly being shown to have a negative impact on
students with special needs, such as hearing impairment.

Acoustics is the study of how sound travels in a room. Aspects of the room's design may
cause sounds to be louder or softer. These issues in schools are referred to as classroom
acoustics. A good acoustic quality in a classroom with good speech intelligibility is required for
an effective learning process. Excessive noise from poor acoustics makes it difficult to hear
lessons effectively and has a detrimental impact on a child's capacity to learn. The purpose of
this research is to improve the classroom's acoustic quality in order to improve learning.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Excessive background noise and reverberation has a negative impact on the achievement and
educational performance of children with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), children with
normal hearing sensitivity who have other auditory learning difficulties, as well as elementary
school children who do not have any verbal or hearing disabilities. Teachers were constantly
straining their voices to be heard over the high noise levels. As a result, teachers would
experience both long-term and short-term voice problems, such as hoarseness and lower vocal
ranges.

As a result of the foregoing, the goal of this research is to improve the classroom's acoustic
quality in order to reduce noises.

OBJECTIVES

 To identify each factor that can help improve acoustic classroom design.
 To provide a solution on how to eliminate reverberation and background noise.
 To explain the importance of a good a classroom's acoustic design.
 To eliminate Background Noise and Reverberation.

DESIGN ILLUSTRATION

Mineral Fiber Ceiling

In every size, price, and performance level, it provides the finest

combination of sound absorption and sound blocking to
maximize acoustics. Where occupant noise is anticipated to
reach high decibel levels, high-performance mineral fiber
ceilings are a viable alternative.

5
Soundblocker tiles

Soundblocker can improve both teaching and learning. It will

significantly increase your ceiling's soundproofing. It decreases
noise leakage in workplaces and schools by using suspended
ceilings. It's simple to install, whether you have new or old
suspended ceilings.

DISCUSSION

Intensive speech contact between teachers and students, as well as among students, is typical
of classroom learning. Acoustical conditions in the classroom influence the effectiveness of this
communication and, as a result, the effectiveness of the learning environment. Excessive noise
and reverberation in classrooms are learning impediments because they obstruct or degrade
verbal transmission. The educational process for all students and teachers is hindered by poor
classroom acoustics. Noise and reverberation, on the other hand, are selective learning

6
impediments. Young children, adults, and people with hearing, language, speech, attention
deficit, or other learning problems are particularly exposed to acoustics that are marginal or bad.

The goal of this study is to improve the classroom acoustic design. It ensures that the
learning of the students will become easier, deeper, more sustained, and less stressful.

RECOMMENDATION

In any learning environment, it's critical to consider background noise and reverberation. The
following are some basic strategies to make a classroom quieter:

 Soft materials like felt or corkboard can be hung on the walls.

 Instead of placing tables in rows, arrange them at an angle around the space.
 Soft tips should be placed on the bottoms of chairs and tables.
 When not in use, turn off loud equipment.
 Curtains or blinds should be hung in the windows.
 Demonstrate to children how difficult it is to hear when several children are speaking at
once.
