HOMEWORK 3 – FORMWORKS

HOMEWORK CONTENT AND SOLVING STEPS

1. Analyse the plans of the the structure and establish the geometrical dimensions, based
on the personal order number
2. Prepare the drawings of the structure (2 plans and 1 cross-section) with the geometrical
dimensions that were calculated at point 1.
3. Loads evaluation
4. Loads combination and evaluate the maximum vertical and horizontal loads (depending
on the geometrical characteristics of the structural elements)

5. Design of the removable modulated formwork panels

5.1. Establishing the dimensions of the formwork panels (AxBxg)
5.2. Establishing the maximum distances between the frame-studs for each of the 4 widths
of the panels (Ai=30 / 40 / 50 / 100 cm) based on the strength design of the formwork
liner.
5.3. Checking the deformability (stiffness) condition for the formwork panel having the
maximum distance between the frame-studs. If the condition is not satisfied, an
additional fram-stud is being added. After that, the deformability condition is being
checked again for the next formwork panel having the maximum distance between the
frame-studs.
(The check is being applied until the deformability condition is being satisfied for the
formwork panel with the maximum distance between the frame-studs.
5.4. Establishing the final number of spans and frame-studs, after the strength and
deformability conditions have been checked.
5.5. Prepare the Technological Sheet for all 12 types of formwork panels, and indicate the
general dimensions and the distances between the frame studs.

6. Slab formwork design (using the modulated formwork panels that were previously
designed) – for only one span of the slab (surface between 2 consecutive transvers
and longitudinal girders)
6.1. Establish the layout (distribution) of the formwork panels so that the entire surface of
the slab is formworked (additional simple wood elements can be added in order to fit
the exact dimensions)
6.2. Establish the static schemes for the elements of the formwork system, that are applied
in the strength and stiffness (deformability) design.
6.3. Establish the position and the distance between the extensible girders, based on the
following conditions:
6.3.1. Frame-stud strength condition
6.3.2. Frame-stud stiffness (deformability) condition
6.3.3. Extensible metallic girder strength condition
6.4. Checking the extensible metallic shores (props) and establishing the final distance
between the extensible girders.
6.5. Prepare the Technological sheet for the formwork system of the slab, that will consist in:
- Plan view with the layout of the formwork panels (with the corresponding codes), the
additional simple wood elements that may be added, position of the metallic extensible
girders and the position of the shores (props);
- Cross-section view of the formwork system. All elements will be indicated and
dimensions will be added;
- Calculate all necessary elements of the formwork system and present them in a table
(type and number of panes, type and number of additional simple wood elements, type
and number of metallic extensible girders, type and number of props).

7. Column formwork design (using the modulated formwork panels that were previously
designed)
7.1. Establish the geometrical dimensions of the formwork (height, width)
7.2. Establish the position of the primary resisting elements (yokes)
7.3. Design the formwork system:
7.3.1. Frame-stud strength condition
7.3.2. Frame-stud stiffness condition
7.4. Establish the final position of the yokes
7.5. Prepare the Technological sheet for the formwork system of the column, that will
consist in:
7.5.1. Lateral view of the formwork system (panels with codes and yokes)
7.5.2. Cross-sectional view of the formwork system (panels with codes and yokes)
7.5.3. Calculate all necessary elements of the formwork system and present them in a
table (type and number of panels, type and number of additional simple wood
elements, type and number of metallic extensible girders, type and number of
props).

8. Walls formwork design (using the modulated formwork panels that were previously
designed)
8.1. Establish the geometrical dimensions of the formwork (height, width)
8.2. Establish the layout of the panels on both horizontal and vertical directions:
8.2.1. Panels layout in the intersection (type A, B, C and D)
8.2.2. Panels layout in the free span of the walls (outside intersections of type A, B, C and
D)
8.3. Design the formwork system by selecting the appropriate distance between the wallers,
based on the following conditions:
8.3.1. Frame-stud strength condition
8.3.2. Frame-stud stiffness condition
8.3.3. Waller strength condition
8.3.4. Waller stiffness condition
8.3.5. Tie-rod strength condition
8.4. Establish the final position of the wallers
8.5. Prepare the Technological sheet for the formwork system of the walls, that will consist
in:
8.5.1. Plan view of the formwork layout in the intersections (type A, B, C and D)
8.5.2. Plan view of the formwork layout in the free span of the walls (outside intersections
of type A, B, C and D)
8.5.3. Lateral view of the formwork system for a r.c. wall. The panels (with codes), the
wallers, the additional wood elements and the tie-rods will be represented.
8.5.4. Cross-section through the formwork system of the r.c. wall. The panels (with codes),
the wallers, the additional wood elements and the tie-rods will be represented.
8.5.5. Calculate all necessary elements of the formwork system and present them in a
table (type and number of panels, type and number of additional simple wood
elements, type and number of wallers, type and number of tie-rods).
