PAS Math and Science Grade 5
PAS Math and Science Grade 5
Project : Journal
Subjects : Mathematics and Science
Tool and Materials:
1. Journal
2. Foods
3. Tablespoons or digital scales
Project Indicators:
1. Mathematics (Ratio)
- Explain how to collect data clearly.
- Explain how to present data clearly in tables or graphics.
2. Science (Balanced and Healthy Diet)
- Students observe the food menu/meal plan that they eat for one week.
- Students write down the nutrients contained in the food.
- Students draw conclusions from their food observations for a week.
Instructions:
1. Students write a menu for breakfast/snack, lunch and dinner for 5 days.
2. Students are asked to complete the journal table on the worksheet.
3. Students calculate the amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vegetables and fruit in each
menu (can use scales or calculate based on how many tablespoons). Students convert and
write the amount in grams. 1 tablespoon = 15 grams (source : https://study.com/academy/)
4. Students compare the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and
fruits each day. Students simplify the ratio.
5. Students make conclusions and explain whether the food they eat is healthy and balanced.
Project time :

Notes :
1 tablespoon = 15 grams (source : https://study.com/academy/)
The formula for a balanced and healthy diet is 25% lean protein and healthy
fats, 25% starch or whole grains and 50% veggies and fruit. So the best ratio will be:
protein and fats : carbohydrates : Veggies and fruit
1 : 1 : 2

1. What is the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits on day 1?
345 : 435 : 720 = 23 : 29 : 48
2. What is the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits on day 2?
330 : 525 : 180 = 22 : 35 : 12
3. What is the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits on day 3?
4. What is the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits on day 4?
5. What is the ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits on day 5?
8. Think, compare and set your “Personal Nutrition Goals”, what will be the perfect healthy
proportion of each nutritions for your daily life!
Total proteins and fats per day :23 tablespoon =345 grams
Total carbohydrates per day :29 tablespoon =435 grams
Total vegetables and fruits per day : 48 tablespoon = 720 grams
The ratio of total proteins and fats , carbohydrates , vegetables and fruits =
