Windows Basics

What is Window? A Basic Introduction.

Windows is an operating system designed by Microsoft. The operating system


is what allows you to use a computer. Windows comes preloaded on most new
personal computers (PCs), which helps to make it the most popular operating
system in the world.

Windows makes it possible to complete all types of everyday tasks on your


computer. For example, you can use Windows to browse the Internet, check
your email, edit digital photos, listen to music, play games, and do much more.
Lets have a look at some Desktop Properties

Desktop properties usually defined as making changes to Desktop, either they


can be icons, files, there order, to open some file, to rename that file, create
new file, Folder and graphics monetization, desktop design, either they can be
wallpapers or screen saviors, and many more.

So, let us look at each of them one by one.

Right Click to any blank part of desktop from your mouse or press functional
key from you keyboard you will get.
1. View

View option is referred as how our desktop should look like How can
icons be seen, small, large, medium, or if there is any miss-arrangements
in icons so the icons can be arranged accordingly and if a user wants to
hide all icons from desktop, then this option is helpful.

Lets Have a look at View Options.

1. Large icons: This will turn desktop icons into large ones.

2. Medium icons: This will turn desktop icons into medium ones.

3. Small icons: This option will turn desktop icons into small ones.

4.Auto Arrange icons: Auto arrange icons" is a desktop feature that


automatically organizes and aligns icons on your desktop in a neat and

orderly fashion. When this feature is enabled, the operating system takes
care of arranging icons to maintain a clean and organized appearance.

5. Align icons to grid: Auto arranging icons often aligns them to a grid on
the desktop. This ensures that icons are evenly spaced and neatly
organized.
6. Show Desktop icons: On Windows, the "Show Desktop Icons" option
allows you to quickly hide or display icons on your desktop.

2. Sort option

Sort option helps us to organize icons placed on desktop in an order, the


order can be Alphabetical (Name), Size, software type, and Date Modified.

Let Us Explore these options in detail.

1. Sort by Name: By applying the sort by name option all the icons will be
arranged in alphabetical order.
2. Sort by Size: Sort by size option referred as all the icons placed on
desktop will be sorted on behalf of their size. The icon with least size
will remain on top and this ordering will be continued.
3. Sort by item Type: This option refers as the app having higher priority

will remain on top and app with lowest priority will remain on bottom.
4. Sort by Date modified: This option refers as the app installed recently
will have the top spot and those installed earlier will have positions
accordingly.

3. Refresh
Refresh options helps us to refresh the computer, Computer performs
multiple instructions at a time, so it gets junked with storage, and it
needs to be refreshed to perform tasks more easily, so this refresh
options helps us to refresh the computer.

4. New Option

New options are used to create new files, folders, and Shortcuts. Files can
be document, can be an image file, database files, archive files.

5. Display Settings

Accessing options related to screen resolution and multiple display


settings.

6. Icons and Shortcuts:


Creating shortcuts to frequently used applications or files on the
desktop. Arranging icons in a way that suits your workflow or
preference.
7. Gadgets or Widgets (Windows):
On some Windows versions, gadgets or widgets might be available for
quick access to information like the weather or calendar.
8. Personalization:
Accessing personalization settings to customize the desktop
appearance, including themes, colors, and sounds.
