Differences between Real World Objects and Digital World Objects:

1. Real World Objects:

o Physical Existence: Real-world objects exist in the physical realm. They


have tangible properties and occupy space.

o Sensory Experience: We perceive real-world objects through our senses


(sight, touch, smell, etc.)

o Memorability: Research suggests that real-world objects are more


memorable than photographs or images of objects . Our memory
performance tends to be better for real objects.

o Interaction: We can interact with real-world objects directly, manipulate


them, and experience their physical properties.

2. Digital World Objects:

o Representation: Digital objects are representations or simulations of real-


world entities. They exist in the virtual or digital space.

o Virtual Reality (VR): VR creates entirely new computer-generated worlds


that users can explore using headsets.

o Augmented Reality (AR): AR blends the real world with virtual elements,
allowing users to overlay digital objects onto their physical environment.

o Limitations: While digital spaces offer exciting experiences, they cannot


fully replace the sensory richness of physical encounters with real-world
objects.

3. Examples:

o Real World: A physical book, a tree, a coffee mug, or a woolly mammoth in


a museum.
o Digital World: A virtual woolly mammoth projected into your backyard
using AR , or exploring a coral reef through an online game.
