A Detailed Lesson Plan in

Mathematics 2
Prepared by: John Andrei T. Delos Reyes

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. add mentally one to two digit numbers with sums up to 50;
b. show interest and enthusiasm in learning and practicing mental addition; and
c. demonstrate fluency and speed in mentally adding numbers.

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic: Mental addition with sums up to 50
b. Reference: Santos, Cherry Ann, C. ( 2020 ), Mathematics 2. Department of Education. Matalino
St., Government Center, Miampis, City of San Fernando. Pages 1-10
c. Materials: Flash Cards, laptop, ppt , visual aids , chalk, blackboard.

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings and Opening Prayer
"Good morning class!"

"Remain standing for the prayer." "Good morning Sir!"

"Good morning once again class!"


(Prayer)
"How are you today?"
"Good morning Sir!"
"It’s good to hear that you are all fine today.

“Do you want to sing?" "We are fine Sir! "

“Alright let’s sing a song in titled “Ako


Malipayon”.

2. Checking of Attendance

"Before we proceed, let me check your


attendance first”. “ Yes Sir”

The teacher will check the attendance)

"Very good! I’m glad all of you are present."

3. Setting of Classroom Standards

"Before we proceed to our next activity, let’s


have an agreement first."
"Everybody read. "
“Okay, so, is everyone seated properly?”

“Very good! What will you do if there is


someone talking here in front?”

“How about if you want to answer?”

“How about if we have group activities, what


will you do?”

B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation "Yes Sir."


“ Okay, everyone eyes here in front and listen
attentively because I will read a story and after
that I will ask a question. Is it clear? “

“Ben is a diligent child. One morning, his “Listen”


mother instructed him to water the 10 carrots
and 10 tomatoes in their garden. How many
plants did Ben water in total?” “Raise the hand”

“ Now let see if you are really listening. Who is


the boy in the story?”
“ Participate”
“What kind of boy is Ben?”

“What did Ben watered?”


“Yes Sir”
“ How many carrots did Ben watered?”

“How about the tomatoes? “

“How many plants did he watered in all?”

“ Very good! The answer is 20. That means


10+10=20.”

2.Presentation
“Now, I want to know, what did you use in
adding 10+10 to get the total 20? Did you use
any paper or calculator to get the total?” “ Yes Sir”

“What did you use? “

“Okay, what you did is what we called mental


addition. And that’s our lesson in this
morning.”
“ Okay, our lesson in this morning is all about
“Mental Addition with sums up to 50.”
“But before we proceed to our proper
discussion, let’s read first our lesson
objectives.” “It’s Ben Sir”

“Diligent”

“Those are the goals of our lesson in this “Carrots and tomatoes”
morning.”
3.Discussion “ 10 carrots “
“Now, I will divide you into two groups. The
column 1 is the group 1,and the column 2 is the
group 2. I have here 2 cars, red and blue. The “10 tomatoes “
red car is for the group 1 and blue for group 2.
What will happen is, if your group can answer
my questions correctly,your car will move until “20 Sir”
it reach the finish line. And the group can reach
the finish line first will be the winner and will
receive a price.”

“Do you like it?”

“If so, you should answer my questions. Now


let’s proceed our proper discussion. “

“ What comes to your mind when you hear the


word addition?” “No Sir”

“Very good! Addition is combining two or


more numbers together to get a new total. It has “Only my mind Sir”
+ symbol which is called plus.”

“What is mental addition? When we say mental


addition, means to add numbers in your mind
without writing down any steps or notes as part
of the calculation.”

“For Example, 15+3 equals?

“Very good!”
“ If 7 blueberries added to 35 strawberries,the “18 Sir”

"There are 21 blue butterflies and 7 yellow


butterflies in Sam's garden. How many

"Very good.How about this one?"


"I counted 14 blue cars and my brother counted
7 red cars. How may cars did we count

“ How about this one, I have 15 marbles and
my brother gave me another 14 marbles. How
many marbles do I have now?” “39 Sir”

“Very good! Do you understand our lesson in


this morning?”

“Again what is mental addition?”

“That’ right! So, do you have any questions


before we proceed?

“Alright, in that case let’s proceed to our group “27 mangoes Sir”

C. Concluding Activities

“But before we proceed, I will group you first
