PARABOLA Report

A parabola is a set of points equidistant from a fixed line called the directrix and a fixed point called the focus. The key properties of a parabola include the vertex, which is the turning point and midpoint between the focus and directrix, the directrix which is a reference line, and the focus, which is the point determining the parabola's shape. The standard form equation positions the vertex at the origin for simplicity.

PARABOLA

A parabola is a set of points in a plane that are equidistant from a fixed line, the directrix,
and a fixed point, the focus.

PROPERTIES OF PARABOLA

1. Vertex – the turning point on the

graph of the parabola. It is also the
midpoint of the focus and the
directrix. It is denoted by V.

2. Directrix – it is a line which is p

units below or above the vertex.

3. Focus – it is a point which p units

below or above the vertex. Any
point on the parabola has the same
distance from the focus as it has
from the directrix. It is denoted by F.

4. Axis of symmetry – the line that

divides the parabola into two parts
which are mirror of each other.

5. Latus rectum – it is a line segment connecting two points on the graph of the parabola
and passing through the focus. The length of the latus rectum is 4p units and its
midpoint is the focus.
