• The first scheduled passenger airline flight in history departed from St. Petersburg,
Florida, on January 1, 1914, and arrived in Tampa, Florida, which was roughly 17
miles (27 kilometers) distant. Though it only operated for four months, the St.
Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line laid the groundwork for the daily transcontinental
flights that exist today. Sales agent Percival Elliott Fansler of a company that made
diesel engines for boats in Florida was enthralled with Benoist's breakthrough in
creating airplanes that could land and take off in the sea. Through correspondence,
the two men came up with "a real commercial line from somewhere to somewhere
else," as Fansler put it, according to Tampapix.com, an amateur historical website
about Tampa. Fansler suggested that the airline operate flights from Tampa to St.
Petersburg. During that period, traveling between the two cities—which were
located on different sides of Tampa Bay—took up to 12 hours by rail or two hours
by steamship. It took roughly twenty hours to drive around the bay. However, a 20-
minute flight would be required. Fansler approached Tampa officials about the
project, but they rejected him. In St. Petersburg, he was well received and attracted
a number of investors. December 12, 1913, saw the arrival of Benoist in St.
Petersburg, followed by Tony Jannus, his personally chosen pilot. The airline
functioned as a future prototype. Others would draw on the experience of the St.
Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line to establish the multi-billion dollar aviation industry
that the world is familiar with today.
2. History of airlines in the Philippines.
• PAL stemmed from the Philippine Aerial Taxi Company established in 1931 by co-
founder Andres Soriano, who shut it down in 1939 and replaced it with Philippine
Air Lines two years later. Philippine Airlines, Inc. (PAL) has been a pioneer in end-
to-end airline operations for almost eight decades. Founded in 1931, PAL was
replaced by Philippine Air Lines in 1939. Despite facing war, PAL's inaugural flight
in 1941 was successful. PAL was initially private, but government ownership was
brought in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, PAL is the only privately-owned major flag
carrier in Southeast Asia. Its Chairman and CEO, Dr. Lucio C. Tan, is PAL’s
longest-serving chief executive. As the "national flag carrier" by R.A. 2232, PAL
has played a significant role in the Philippine economy and tourism industry.

5. In what airline you wishes to work with in the future? State your reasons why?
- Emirates has always been known as one of the world’s best carriers, and I like it
here because one of the reasons is that the uniform looks classy and elegant. One
of my dreams is to ride here as a passenger or a flight attendant because it is
known as one of the best airlines, providing the best service to their passengers
and the beautiful interior of the plane. I also want to be able to provide service to
every person I meet on the plane, make them experience the things I learned in
training, and make them feel the care of a Filipino. Even if we board another airline,
maybe it's not bad to make them feel like they know how to take care of a Filipino.
I can't share in detail why I want to ride here because sometimes I only see it in
advertisements like "it's beautiful here, their uniform is beautiful, the inside of the
plane is beautiful," and I know that I'm not the only one who dreams of riding or
working here. I also want to be able to travel for free at the same time to be able
to provide service to people, and one of the reasons why I like it here is that the
salary is great. There are also many people, or Filipinos, who work abroad because
they want to help their families because the salary here in our country is not
enough. I also want to help my family, and at the same time, I have reached my
dream of being able to work here and visit different countries for free. It's a good
feeling when other people talk about you, "Kier works at the Emirates," and see
you have something to be proud of; it's like they think highly of you because of the
word "emirates," but until now it's still a dream. Those are the only reasons why I
chose this airline.
